ok , i am brain dead , cant remember crap anymore......question is...setting up a duel point dist. what is the total dwell ? 35 degrees? ....and what is the dwell of each set of points ??? point gap .018 each ?? i remember how ,,,just not the numbers......... thanks guys

I think you`re on the right track, from what I remember (and it`s not much either) points should be at .017 and total dwell between 37-42. That`s all for my one brain cell.

Gap - .014" to .019" (set wide to allow for wear)
Dwell - one set - 27 to 32 degrees
both sets - 37 to 42 degrees

That's directly out of the '68 Dart service manual, but all the dual point distributors require about the same.

Dual Point(less) distributors...:joker:

That's why they invented Electronic ignition...

I'm with Jim. I aim for 28* dwell seperate, and a total as low as possible. (less dwell means more time for the coil windings to "soak" before firing)

Wrong, more dwell, more time for the coil to build energy. Dwell angle is the amount in distributor degrees that the points are closed and the coil receives energy. FYI, this isn't meant to dis anyone, just to straighten out an often misunderstood yet important facet of tuning.

You're right..LOL..sorry..I've gotten that backwards since tech school, my old instructor can verify that....You should always feel free to "dis" on an open forum...that's what they are for. Especially when you know you're right ;)
