If I was in your situation, I'd be raising mortal freaking hell with the place you bought the thing from. It wouldn't matter to me if I put 1700 miles on it or not.
Y'know, were this not a legitimate, totally unforeseen breakdown, I'd be incredibly angry. But, as this was just a matter of bad luck coupled with bad timing, I'm pretty okay with it.
