I had the distinct pleasure of working with both 2 Darts and GTGrinly on a really cool project for 2 Darts' Demon.

Steve came up with a great idea for a pair of Mickey Thompson valve covers (see my new avatar), and enlisted GTGrinly Dave to prepare some custom vinyl decals for him. I did the coating work and applied the decals. The results were pretty stunning! Public thanks go out to both these guys for making my job not only interesting but also a lot of fun.

How many other FABO members have worked together on a mutual project? Let's see some pics of what great minds and willing hands can come up with.

The first shot in Leanna's post shows the M/Ts after she worked some her magic in the blast cabinet and some old-school TLC. Here's a photo of what she started with. The finished product looks better in real life than in the photos.

Both Leanna and Dave were a pleasure to work with. It took only a minimal amount of coordination to produce these results. They're pros and it shows.

If anyone is interested, I have a template for the design that allows me to change colors and the alpha/numeric characters. The template is for M/Ts like these. I charge $30.00 for use of the design with your choice of color. If someone would want to do something similar for a different valve cover, I'm willing to negotiate. PM with interest or requirements.

I always hated those valve covers cause they had the goofy looking blank area, now they look WAY cooler!! Nice work, wonder why it took so long for this neat idea, keep them comming!!

I feel the same way.

I have always wanted to put a "Barracuda" script or 360 call-outs on those flat areas.

They look really good with the decals and I really had to look hard to realize they were decals and not raised fins....great job!

I just wonder how they will stand up to the engine heat.

THAT is the question...........

Man, if Leanna could "bake" that on there, WOW!!!!!

I have a set of Mickey's on a car right now, and I was gonna take 'em off..........This has me re-thinkin' the prospects.........:sunny:

If you could do a set of these for me with the Duster Script on them, I already have a set on my car and will send them in to be done. Please let me know. Thank You.

Sorry, you reminded my sick mind of this scene.

Wow, thanks guys!!!

If any of you wish to pursue this or a similar idea on your own valve covers, I'm totally willing to help out. Please first contact Steve aka 2 Darts about his decal design specific to your needs. I can't speak on behalf of Dave aka GTGrinly about his workload / willingness to prepare the decals, but he did a wonderful job on Steve's and shipped them directly to me to help keep costs and time to a minimum.

I saw an old pair of ribbed Edelbrock valve covers recently with that big ol' funky blank plate on them too ... looked about the same size as the one on the M/Ts.

I had a feeling this might be pretty popular once the word got out!

Do you think the sticker will hold up to the heat?

I was also wondering how I would get a Barracuda script attached unless I used a real sticky, high temp adhesive sealant.

Spaz, valve covers don't really get that hot. I'd expect they'll last quite a while (I've had vinyl PSC decals -- also prepared by GTGrinly -- on the back windows of my shop truck and daily driver for a couple years now, and even all that UV and element exposure hasn't damaged them at all).

The original plan was to cover them with a clear to encapsulate the decals in there but it would also make the valve covers shiny, and I was afraid they might lift a bit under the heat of the cure so we left them as is.

Cool, that makes sense.

I have a Mopar-Performance Parts sticker on an electronic ignition box that gets as hot as a firecracker and it really has not distorted at all itself.

Spaz, I gave your idea a little thought while having a puff in the basement. Since there's another set of Mickey Thompsons here donated for the Young Guns contest and I have a newer Barracuda emblem handy ...

... it seems to be workable. The "B" is a little too tall, but I suppose it could be reduced in size when transferred into a decal.

The only problem I can foresee in turning factory emblems into decals is copyright related, and anyone who's been on MoparStyle (or whatever it's called these days) or read about Laysons knows that Mopar corporate takes their copyright issues VERY seriously.

I like the engine displacement if the script idea is a legal problem. The displacement stickers could be made in any color combination I assume????

I like this whole picture except mine would have to have the raised ribbed areas in hemi orange.
Then the barracuda script would really stand out.

Or would it clash?

Spaz, the "B" hangs off the top of the flat plate by about a quarter of an inch. If the emblem is more centered on the plate, then the middle "a" hangs off the bottom of the plate suspended in empty air above the middle bolt passage.

I think the black and Hemi Orange would look good, especially if you have any other orange in the engine compartment (like on your block) ... it would bring the viewer's eye around artistically and tie stuff together under the hood.

couls you do a 318 sticker in chrysler blue? well actually two. one for each side?

ps. that goofy looking empty spot has a tag on my covers..it read C S&S ENG

Wow....The Barracuda emblem looks great. Why not just powder coat it in Hemi Orange and attach it ?

Is the 1/4" overhang of the "B" in the way of anything?

im not sure its an emblem. it looks like a sticker in the picture?

mopar and there copy rights . our local mopar guy larry shepard had a shop called hemis only. before the new hemis came out they made him drop the name. 2 years later the new motors came out.

I remember that. What a shame huh?

Do you know what he changed it to or if he is still in biz?

tmj91, please speak with 2 Darts about your specific decal mentioned in your first reply.

I'm holding a factory Barracuda emblem up to the valve cover to kind of mock it up in the other picture and see how Cudaspaz's idea pans out, that one is NOT a decal. Obviously, to mount it to the valve cover, the pins on the back would have to be shaved.

6pk, there's an idea!!! As you know personally, it CAN be done. lol The overhanging "B" doesn't really get in the way of anything per se, but the size prohibits the emblem from being fully mounted to the flat plate. Basically, it's going to hang off somewhere, either the "B" or the middle "a."

Thanks again for the kind words on this project!
