I looked at this 66 Dart Vert Sunday.. I want it and the price seems OK $1500. Its a driver ,Slant 6 ,auto, But the rear Quarters will need replacing.. as well as the Floorboards and there's some other rust to fix .. the tops drivable but would also need replaced, But its a inspected driver...
NOW the Questions.. 1. good price Right??
2. are there parts available? Sheet metal ect.?
3. why do women not understand why men buy cars?

Answers,

1. Fair price, but make sure it isn't too rusted. It is a conv. and they will fold when the top is down if both doors get opened at the same time.

2. You can get some sheet metal.

3. That question will remain unanswered for eternity.

The rockers would have to be gone for it to fold by opening the doors...you can get quarter patch panels but you can't get floorpans specifically for the 66...the bottom edge of the rear seat is also a bad spot for these and the floorpan directly below it rots and is a separate piece from the rear floorpan.
Still $1500 for a driver, inspected, clear title, not wrecked, doesn't sound bad. As far as you last question, if I had that answer I'd have a few more cars. So let me know when you find out, I got my eye on a 70 AMX.

This eBayer is selling floor pans that allegedly fit the '60-'65 Valiant, Lancer and Dart. I don't know how much the Dart's floor pans changed in '66, but maybe they could be re-worked to fit a '66 without too much effort.

When I restored my '62 Valiant, the only floor pans I could find were advertised to fit only '63 and up models, but it turned out they were virtually identical to my '62's. The only difference was that the '63 floor pans were about 3" wider than the '62's, and only had to be trimmed down to fit. Maybe the difference between the '65 and '66 floor pans is also minor. If you want to know for sure, PM slantsixdan. He's the acknowledged expert on these cars. Maybe he can tell you where to get other sheet metal parts, too.

Got to make the call today. anybody else??

Put the top down and open both doors. Then get in and see how the doors line up when you go to close them, you need to be sitting in it though or you won't know if it is flexing without having weight in it. If the door opens and closes good with no dragging or hanging up with you in the car while the top is down and the doors open then I would buy it. But if the door hangs up or binds when you try to close them, then you have more structural rust and I would walk away unless you're ready for the work involved.

No matter what it needs work. Make an offer, maybe $1200 and see what happens. If it's a driver and the motor is solid not a bad deal for a vert. Just be sure to crawl under the car with a screw driver and start poking.

66 floorpans are the same as the 65, the only difference is at the shifter, 65 had a cable shifter and 66 had linkage and the front seats were mounted in a slightly different position as the 66 seats are narrower then the 65 and the mounting holes are moved slightly...I have both a 65 and a 66, I've had them side by side and don't see any other difference, consoles were different but that's add on to the floor panels.

I think rear pans are different between Dart & Valiant because the Dart has a longer wheelbase. At least I think Dart had a longer wheelbase, even way back then.

The floor pans from any 63-66 A-Body should work, even the 4dr pans will be the same. The wheel base shouldn't make any difference if you know what your doing, you need to trim and fit any floor pan that you use. The rockers are all the same as well, even between 2dr & 4dr, but they are different between the different wheel base.

dang.. if thats in running shape id pay 1500 for it! now. before someone else did.

I say get it! See if you can get the price down a bit and really check to make sure it is structurally sound - I think checking how the dorrs open and close with the top unattached is a good way to tell. I've seen this with a lot of rust in the quarter s and fenders but also had very solid frames, don't forget to check the front torsion ba mounting area for rust too.

For the price you should be able to get most of your cash back if you need to sell it. These are cool cars and can be a big bang for the buck but it's way too easy to be upside down on them, so just make sure you don't invest a lot more than it will ever be worth. In other words get it, drive it and don't worry about fixing it up too much. You might be able to sell it in the summer, sometimes the best car is one you won and enjoy and then sell and get your money back.

As far as #3 is concerned they should understand that's it's just like shoes for them.

I would buy it without hesitation. It don't look that bad but I think I would still make sure it doesn't sag with the top down and doors open before I bought it.

I'd buy it for the $1500 also, never hurts to check it as much as possible before you buy it, i.e. put the top down and open the doors..but I would think if it was that rotted weak the doors wouldn't close properly as it sits.

How good did u say u were at metal work and rust repair?
How bad do u want it?
Checking if the doors open and close good only works if the hinges arent worn out. They probably are. If the rockers look solid then I would not worry.
Looks like a sharp car 2 me. Convertible tops are not cheap. The cowls rust out on these cars big time.

OK Guys thanks to your advice... I GOT IT!!! just unloaded it in the driveway. I'll start a new thread with pics later...BONUS-- OH GOT A SET of Cragars and new tires with it also.....

If it's reliable, drive it to St. Louis and I'll give you a profit. 8)

Congrats on getting the car!
Just so you know I had a set of Cragars for small bolt pattern mopars and sole then for $450, they were very shiny but had a lot of pits. So I think you did well>
