I say get it! See if you can get the price down a bit and really check to make sure it is structurally sound - I think checking how the dorrs open and close with the top unattached is a good way to tell. I've seen this with a lot of rust in the quarter s and fenders but also had very solid frames, don't forget to check the front torsion ba mounting area for rust too.

For the price you should be able to get most of your cash back if you need to sell it. These are cool cars and can be a big bang for the buck but it's way too easy to be upside down on them, so just make sure you don't invest a lot more than it will ever be worth. In other words get it, drive it and don't worry about fixing it up too much. You might be able to sell it in the summer, sometimes the best car is one you won and enjoy and then sell and get your money back.

As far as #3 is concerned they should understand that's it's just like shoes for them.
