Best Cam for a 340

I run the solid xe268 in my 360. I ran the numbers on desktop dyno and looked at the charts on the compcams camquest program and the solid XE268 had more torque than the solid xe274 until 5500rpm where they were about equal. The xe274 only had about 10 more ft-lbs than the xe268 at 6000rpm. I'm happy with it, the idle is smoother than my previous cam (magnum 280H), and it has better throttle response and feels like it pulls harder up high, but sometimes I wish it loped more at idle. I think you'd be giving up a bit of torque throughout the entire powerband below 5500 rpm if you go with the 284. If you're building something to operate at higher rpm you might be happier with the 284. Some other guys with more experience will probably have better advice. Don't take my numbers as gospel, they are what the computer spit out and they were for a solid cam, not the hydraulic versions. Good luck!

My combo is:
360 LA 10.5:1 compression
XE268 solid cam
Eddy heads
Eddy RPM air gap intake
Hedman small headers
Holley 750 double pumper
4 speed manual, 3.91 gears
