Good carb to use with 318?

I am doin a little bit of tinkering with my stock 318. I just picked up a Performer intake and I am considering a cam swap. What carb should I use. I am looking for something I could buy cheap and rebuild.

I find the Carter/Edel. carbs easy to tune and set up. Reliable in all weather without being tempermetal. A set it and forget it.

Used Edelbrocks are easy to find. I myself like the AVS version of the Carter myself best on squarebore units. 600 is plenty.

A T-Q is also another factory unit that can be purchased cheaply. There a bit different to deal with and a pain until you learn it. The carb must be intaly set up well before bolting it down. Theres measurements everywhere to be taken and adjusted. Once you get this all sorted out, I thikn you'll like it alot.

The problem being jets. I bend AFB rods to size and clip off the extra material.

Holleys can come dirt cheap as well from swap meets and the cost of a rebuild kit is also cheap. I picked up a 4160 for $20, rebuild kit for under $40 and did it all myself. (OK vat of cleaner extra.)
I did opted for a conversion kit to a 4150. It included the metering block and a longer tube and new seals for the transfer tube. Worth it IMO.
