I purchased a 1973 Dodge Dart Swinger project car with a 318. The man who sold it told me first that someone had placed a 360 air cleaner on this car. Once I towed the car home, in checking I noted that the carb is a Holley model 2210 2 barrel. I think he might have lied to me as this carb is not bolted down and is not the correct model for the year and make of car.

The car should have a Holley model 2280 according to the books. Does anyone have any experience with this carb on the year/model of Dart with a 318? Or should I just rebuild the 2210 or locate the required 2280. I am not looking to increase the fuel consumption at first, that will come later on with an intake manifold change.

the carb should be a BBD carter or simular holley..

if it was mie i would use the carter carb..

im not sure of the numbers you posted, you said it had a 360 air cleaner on it. now if the 360 AC fit the carb you have now, then someone swaped 360 intake and carb and replaced the 318 carb and intake..
the 318s airhorn is smaller in dia then the 360, they dont even look alike.

go to adanced autos website and look at models with the 318 and the 360.. try different yrs ect..

post pics if you have them..

my 68 318 came with a carter bbd....my 76 318 came with a 2280. there are pics in my recent threads about carburetor choice for the 318 and pics of some carter bbd's on bolted down. you can get them dirt cheap and either will work. the holley has to have a tall carb gasket . the carter does not. both will work fine. the carter is 280 cfm the holley is smaller

2x2 carter bbd

Thanks everyone, I did not think that the carb was correct and for a few years I intend to keep this car original and drive it with some economy in mind. I have previously rebuilt the 1974 seen in the photo, It was a 360, 300hp with a Holley 4 barrel for my son. This 73 came my way and I could not resist, so it will be a nice easy car to use to enjoy until my grandson is a little older. After that all bets are off as to what I will do with the engine and drive line then.

the 360 2bbl carb wont bolt to a 318 intake
It will if you put the 360 intake onto the 318! (it's then on a 318, making it a "318 intake")
Oh and I never thought the 2280 started (as OEM stock anyways) til '78. I thought all 318s were BBD's (not counting teh real old ones with Strombergs or teh '71s with 2 bbl Rochesters)
Seems they mixed/matched BBDs and 2280s from the time they started using 2280s til Carter went under; then all 2 bbls were 2280s.
