When mixed with Iron Oxide particles and lightly heated it will produce a substance known as Thermite. To ignite said substance, one would place a strip of Magnesium ribbon into the powder and light the ribbon with a torch. The powder will burn hot enough to melt through the hood of someone's car and into the engine block.
