I sit here goin back in time to a place I never got to see. Thats why I love classic music it opens a window I never got to look through. What are your favorite classics? I'm listening to the song Operator just listened to You Don't Mess Around With Jim.

Me too. His songs all told a story. We listened his 'greatest hits' 8-track a lot when I was growing up.

Dad Fogelberg is another great songwriter/guitarist from that era. 'Twin Sons of Different Mothers' is a classic album. 'Tell Me To My Face' is my favorite cut.

I'm sure this will be a long and interesting thread as members contribute their favorite artist from that era.

I also like Bad Company, Foghat, Three Dog Night, and Dr. Hook as well as alot of others. I guess cause thats the stuff my Dad listened to when I was grownin up.

John Prine, "And you may see me tonite with an illegal smile, it dont cost very much, but it last a long while, Wont you please tell the man i didn't kill anyone, I'm just tryin to have me some fun"
Or "Hello in there, Hello", Or "Lydia"
or "Mullenberg County" = "Oh daddy wont ya take me back to Mullenberg County, down by the green river where paridise lay, I'm sorry my son but your too late in askin, Mr Peabodys coal train has hauled it away"
Or "Sam Stone" with a monkey on his back.
Lots a good stuff out there guys. I like the small venues where you can set and drink a few and listen to the real stuff and go far away. Thanks for the memories 72.

I grew up about 25-30 minutes from Muhlenberg County. I always like that song.

Are we still buddies Daredevil? How about ABBA? Or Gold City Quartet? Leon Redbone? Oh yes Arlo Guthrie. Seals and Croft? Loggins and Masina "Changes"? Crosby,Stills, and Nash....and Young. Niel Young has got to be one ofthe best. I could do Steely Dan a lot. How about New Riders of the Purple Sage "Panama Red". I tell ya i'm an old wore out dope smokin hippy surfer bum from Huntington Beach, Calif in my past life. If ya didn't have 3 boards and a dirt bike you wasn't nothin with the babes. DD i may have to ride down and see ya when the wife heads for Colorado.

Back to the original topic, Croce is/was the man, excellent songwriter. I have "Photographs and Memories" on Vinyl

Don't forget Harry Chapin. Another great storyteller along with Jim Croce and Gordon Lightfoot.
'Taxi', 'Cats In The Cradle', and 'W.O.L.D.' are some of the greatest ever.
