Would anyone be interested in Alum. Defroster vents? I am going to be making some polished Alum. ones for my 66 Dart and just wanted to know if there might be a market for them.

Nope. Nothing good can come of having shiny, polished, or reflective items atop the dash like that. They'll be glare monsters when the sun hits them.

I think it would be cool to have some custom pieces, but not polished . Powder coated flat black maybe .

I'll take a pair, how much?

I am not sure how much I will have in them until I get done making mine. I will let you know. I could also get them either powdercoated or anodized in probably any color you would want. When I get mine done I will post some pictures.

Are they CNC'd from billet? I'll take a pair if the cost is not too prohibitive. I have several sets of the stock vents but having something different would be cool. PM me whne you are ready. Thanks, John

I'd be interested in seeing what they look like and depending on that buying a pair. Keep me in the loop !

If we only had a "go to" person for quality power coating. I'll go get the Yellow Pages! ;)

I will be interested in seeing the final product. I would powder coat mine if I got a set.......

i cnc'd some at my school last year...never did get around to finishing them..thanks for reminding me!!

Does anyone remember many years ago there was a company that made a tach mount that came up from the defroster vent towards the driver? You could mount a monster tach to it. I can't remember the name of the company but they went under several years ago. Do you think you can make something similar?

I'm not sure if you're going for the show car billet look or affordable, indestructible replacements for parts that haven't aged well. If it's the latter, I'd be interested.

So how soon will you know about making some vents? If so what will you be asking?

I finished drawing up the design in AutoCad and will give it to my Dad to make this weekend. My Dad is a machinist and will probably be using a CNC to make the vents. I am not sure of his schedule right now but as soon as I get them done I will post some pictures.

Leana (I think thats right) CudaChick owns Pheonix Specialty Coatings and is a member on this site. She specializes in it and is very reliable and fair on pricing. I am sure if we got a big lot together she would do it. Also as soon as you have pictures for the final product I would be interested in a pair. It would be a good replacment for the crappy plastic ones.

That's the problem down here in the desert, the plastic gets brittle and does not last long. I think the alum. ones would look cool plus would stand up well to the sun.

my plastic ones are falling apart and i would prefer to not pay 120 for a pair. so if you are making them, id be interested depending on how much and if you got them powder coated flat black. i will be interested. Let Me Know

I looked at making these also , the only problem area to make is the different angles to difuse the air to different parts of the windshield . If you had a 5 axis CNC , no problem, of course , they would be $500.00 a pair for the time to run that kind of machine , or you could have 4 seperate set-ups to do the different angles one at a time , but that ups the involvement with each piece ( more time , more money) . If you do the latter you are looking at 5 or 6 operations for each part which probably puts them in the $130.00 a pair range . But then again I could be full of **** and somebody comes along with a better plan ( that happened once before , LOL !!!) .

Hey Jeff, thanks for the props!!! I appreciate the kind words ... your check is on the way. LOL

RogerK, I had to laugh a little at your wish for a "go to powder coater" on the site. I've been pretty vocal around here for over five years now -- over a hundred delighted FABO customers and counting -- and am a bit surprised to learn there was someone on the board who wasn't already familiar with my services and quality of work.

Even if there isn't a big lot of them to do at once, I'm happy to help anyone who wants to undertake an aftermarket type of production run and get that item powder coated. I'm already lined up to coat some sweet A Body louvers, beautiful specialty sill plates and a few other quality items being produced and marketed by FABO members and am willing to work with you guys on pricing, color choices and shipping alternatives to make things as easy and affordable as possible. 66DartDude, please give me a call if you're interested in getting a prototype done. With over 6,500 colors available, I'm sure we can come up with something you'll like. :-D

i had planned on cutting the top and bottom out of two seperate peices and hand bending the fins..

So what is the status on these? You asked about it a long time ago and I would really like to replace the crumbling crappy plastic ones. Let me know whats up

Thanks
Jeff
