I'm thinking about getting a passion performance 4 speed overdrive and the gear ratio is 1st 3.09:1 2nd 1.67:1 3rd 1.00:1 4th .73:1 is this a big difference from a stock A-833?
Thanks
Mike

A normal gear ratio for your mopar manual tranny would be this:
1st=2.66/2.47
2nd=1.91
3rd=1.39
4th=1.00 or a 0.73 if its a OD tranny.
This tranny will be a big difference over your stock tranny.
Out of the hole its going to fry tires and when shifting to second will really slow down the motor as the ratio is less than the stock ratio,so build a motor with torque for this tranny and tall tires,Mrmopartech

The A833OD I have has the 3.09 first gear, I believe all of them did. I have had this tranny behind both a warmed over slant 6 and a hot 360. The 1-2 shift was never a problem for either engine. The 2-3 shift is no issue for the 360 but I did need to rev past the torque peak with the slant to keep the engine in a decent rpm but it was not really and issue. The 3-4 shift is like any tranny when you shift into OD don't expect a lot of acceleration in 4th. BTW, I had both 3.23 and 3.55 gears behind this tranny.

Of course if you are looking for maximum performance at the strip this is not the best choice for a tranny. But if it's a street car, go for it.

FWIW, If I were to be looking to spend the money on a Passion Perfromance version of the OD I would go a differnent route. Pick up a Borg Warner T5 5 speed from a 5.0 Mustang at the junk yard (can be had for around $150). Then spend some of your money to have an adapter made to mate the tranny to the mopar bellhousing.

I do believe that Passon's newer overdrive setup is like a 727's gear sets.
