How is it that this engine compartment is so clean? The walls of the compartment look like it's never been driven. Can these compartment walls be totally re-done or something?
Maybe a strange question, but it was one really obvious thing when I was looking at the car.

Thanks,
Darcy

Walls like this indicate low driving and if driven, it's driven in really nice weather

No mopar had a black engine compartment (they were body color) unless the car was painted black. Most likely when the /6 was pulled to be rebuilt they redid the engine compartment.

the black paint on the walls has been redone , because mopars left the factory with the engine bay painted body color. i believe it was chevy that used black, and alot of us mopar guys use it as a quick fix sometimes for cleaning up paint that cant be saved.the orange intake is not original color either. it does look very clean and fresh, even the alternator looks new. i would be happy with it if it were mine, maybe just throw on a chromed valve cover.

i just repainted mine like 2weeks ago still looks the same. fore some sandpaper rust encapment paint and some time turned out better then i expected

Looks like a "rattle can resto". No amount of black paint can camouflage the fried wiring harness.

Engine should be all blue, and the valve cover should be bolted down.

I have a 72 Vailant and 73 Duster Both one built in July 72 and the other Aug 72. They each have black engine bay and have never been restored. Body color light tan. When I redo them I would rather paint them the body color.

Did Chrysler ever do black engine bays with a different body color? Just curious.

Thanks

Oneway, No, all unibodies were dipped in primer and color painted as a unit. The only black used was applied after the paint on the area behind the grille to prevent you seeing the color through the grille. This was sprayed haphazardly with no masking applied.

Thank You....I am glad to hear that when I change the color I want to paint the whole body.
I guess my 2 have been touched at some point in time.

Why a blue valve cover when the rest of the motor appears to be (chevy) orange.

  1. Judging by the 3rd world emissions modifications, it's possible that the person who did the work is a fan or alumnus of Auburn University. (school colors are orange and blue)
  2. Must have run out of Chev orange in the rattle can.
lol. FWIW: The front cover of the Mopar Performance 6 Cylinder Engines book has a /6 sprayed Hemi orange with a chrome valve cover and a chrome oil filter cover on it.

this is what it looks like under my hood

someone cleaned and repainted that engine bay. once its clean and freshly painted the upkeep is easy.

Just like my dad always says.

"A little putty and paint to make it what it aint."

AND

"If it don't run, chrome it"

Mine is by no means a daily driver but it does get driven regularly. Like the previous poster stated once it's clean it's not hard to keep it that way.
