GM to shut down Hummer after deal fizzles

-
good riddance

Due in part to the military HMMWV's success in Desert Storm, AM General introduced a civilian version of the vehicle called the HUMMER in 1992. Known as “the world’s most serious 4x4,” the revolutionary vehicle has found favor with commercial users who appreciated the value of HUMMER’s long life and amazing performance, and individuals who seek the ultimate in toughness and mobility. In 1999, General Motors acquired the HUMMER brand worldwide and rebadged the original vehicle H1. In 2002, AM General began assembling the HUMMER H2 for GM in its new factory in Mishawaka, Ind. This vehicle was designed by and is marketed by General Motors. In 2006, production of the H1 ceased. Although GM acquired the HUMMER brand, they do not own any part of AM General. I thought the little blue pill was what Mick Jagger called mothers little helpers?

oh well..I've never really liked hummers...I could go more places in my 77 chevy 3/4 ton 4x4...hummers wheeled like ****...

yea. No more trying to see around the damn things at stoplights anymore....except for the ones on the road, that is.

The Hummer should have been strictly a military vehicle and never should have been produced for street use. Save that gas for hungry Mopars dammit!
=P~

the deal to sell hummer to china fell through, A.M. GENERAL still makes the humvee and they are not a division of G.M.

The 4 door Jeep Wrangler killed the Hummer....With the removable doors and top and cheaper price, the Hummer had no chance....Not to mention, the Hummer couldn't shine the Rubicons rims off road.

I liked the original military Hummers, but the ones after couldn't really interest me....

They were just a gimmick for the status symbol people ninche. Just flat stamp sheet metal on a Tahoe chassis. Same with the H3 was on a Trailblazer chassis. They were still limited to what the Tahoe & Trailblazer could do.
This is why the Jeep has been successful, the Wrangler & Grand Cherokee can still be true offroaders. Now if Jeep could get rid of the wannabes from their line-up, & concentrait on the core vehicles, this would be a good time to pick up X-Hummer owners.
So, selling off the Hummer brand, all they were selling was the sheet metal & interior. Am I right?

What will soccer mom;s drive now, dumptrucks? LOL.

Seriously, what a waste of a vehicle for the street, they are so friggin big and serve no purpose other than looking like you're all dat when pulling into blockbuster on a saturday night, or to drop the daughter off at cheerleader camp as you drive by the mini vans with your nose in the air, but to each their own I guess.
