Well, I've finally decided to get a six pack fiberglass hood from AAR. Just wondering if I should get the lift-off or bolt-on version.

The lift-off is $100 cheaper, probably is a little lighter with less reinforcement (not sure about this), but will be more awkward to deal with.

Anybody have their own preferences? I'm leaning bolt on right now.

Get the bold on if its not a race car. I plan on one day ordering a hood from aar for my duster. Wish they didnt cost so dang much.

I wouldn't want a lift off unless it was for purely track use, I would think it's too awkward to remove especially if you're alone. I just bought a bolt on one for one of my non-Mopar cars.

I had a lift of on my duster it was nice to work under the hood but it got to be a pain between rounds and if the wind got up well.my next one will be a bolt on with pins.

i just bolted on an AAR. had the same questions as you and went with the hinged type. my thinkung was, you could always 4-pin a hinge type, but probably couldnt hinge a pin on type. The problems are finding a suitable location for the rear pins on a dart body without cobbing some sort of bracket. You will have to buy light weight hood springs if you go with that style, and like i did, go with front pins for safety. I have a 69 1/2 road runner that helped me plan and decide for my dart

Go with the bolt-on. You'll be glad you did the first time you want/need to pop the hood quickly in the wind.

I have the AAR bolt on hood, using the factory latch & frt. corners pinned.
Its on our drag car. Its alot easier to keep up with than the lift off.
Nice hood, shipping can be a killer. From AAR to Tulsa, $180.00

yes shipping will kill you. it ships by truck freight in a huge box. have it shipped to a place of business, other than a residence, and youll save around $50.00

I have a lift off hood. And it is a pain in the ***. It's easy to work on without the hood but, I would listen to everybody and get a bolt on.

I bought an AAR bolt on 2 years ago, the painter still has it so I have not had it on yet. The steel hood I have with a 6 pack scoop bolted on is a "lift off" due to the hinge mounts rusted out. I use this as a lift off, it weighs 65 lbs compared to the 15 lbs of the fiberglass. I can put it on and off by myself, so i'm sure that a 15 lb hood would not be awkward at all in comparison. I have chipped paint with the steel hood, but I think the fiberglass would be much more forgiving due to weighing 50 pounds less.

I think whenever I called to buy a hood they wanted around a $100 or so to ship and like $50 just to pack it plus the almost $600 for the hood.

Yah, they are spendy. I'd just get a fiberglass scoop for my steel hood but I know about the inevitable cracking problems when fiberglass is bonded to metal. And the bolt-on scoops are 4.25" tall as opposed to 3.25" tall and look out of proportion on a dart IMO.

Yea. The reason im looking into one for my duster is because I plan to stroke it in the near future and the rpm air gap I have with the air cleaner I want to run wont clear the hood. Ill have to fork the cash out one day for one but not right now lol.

Just like everyone has said, get a bolt on.

I had a lift off on my Dart in the 80's and I must of forgot how much of a pain it was because I got one on my Fish now, taking it on and off by myself isn't bad but having a place to set it at the shows becomes a problem and if there is any kind of a breeze, you don't take it off.

Warm weather is coming. Are there any big swapmeets close to you? They probably go to the big meets, so you can save shipping by just having them bring it for you.

For example, Spring Carlisle is less than 2 months away. I know that's too far away for you, but maybe you have something similar there.

LOL - not in Montana.

i'm going with the lift off hood (6pack) and running a 408 with rpm air gap. Reason i want to get a lift off hood is to be different not just from other cars out there but also different from the cars i have and will have.

Big question i have is how do you guys lift the hood off without scratching the paint? any tips or tricks?

You Wont, eventually it will happen and i wouldnt worry about it. you wont really scratch any paint on the body, but youll chip the hood corners. Lift the hood from one side of the car and move it directly to the roof. Put a piece of heater hose over each pin to help cushion the hood when you set it back on the car. I have a huge flat Snap On fender cover that rolls up nice and i keep it with the car and just roll it out on the roof and set the hood on that at shows or the track. it keeps the hood from sliding off the roof in the wind. These are tricks ive learned from my 6bbl

Go with the bolt-on..AAR makes a real nice hood well worth the money spent..

Im pretty sure we will be getting one this year at Carlise. They have them there and you can look at them in person. They are nice but I would go with the bolt on. A duster around here has it and it looks great.

I use some clear door edge guard on the bottom edges of the hood to keep from scratching the car and chipping the hood when I'm taking it on and off.
