Favorite WWII Plane?

dose anyone no why the wings on the corsair are shaped the way they are let see if anyone knows i'll let you all know by the end of the day if no one knows

The F-4U Corsair was designed with the 'gull' wings in order to get the fuselage up high enough for the massive large-diameter prop to clear the ground. Check out the design, the landing gear are located at the junction of the gull-wing "elbow". Great design and outstanding aircraft.
(whoops - looks like barge beat me with the answer while I was writing my long-winded post)

Great thread, Joe. I have a lot of favorite designs from WWII: The P-40 has always been a favorite due to the shark nose art; the P-38 is just too cool; the P-51 (later designs) is just a beautiful aircraft; the B-25 is a great design with outstanding capabilities - a twin-engine medium bomber with the heart and soul of a fighter; and the B-17 was like a heavyweight boxer that could just keep taking body punches and still beat you.
