Im trying to figure out if I should use the .054 fel pro for the magnum head and block that is 519sd

or get the whole MR.Gasket set and use those head gaskets that are either .039 or .040 that are for an LA block

what should I do?

would a drop from 10.9 to 10.5 compression make a difference?
This would also drop my dynamic from 8.531 with the .038s to 8.2 with the .054

Why did you do that after i gave you the Fel-pro part #s?

because your gasket is for a .054 gasket..i have magnum heads on a LA block. I wanted the .039-.040 gasket not one that would lower my compression almost half a point.

74burnt orange, just a thought for you there is a guy named Jim Lusk he is on the BOG (barracuda owners group board). He really is sharp on the technical side.Anything you can do with an a-body he probably has done it ,especially if it has anything to do with a big block. You might wanna stop by that board and ask the questions you have.Just a thought.

He has continuously ignored our recommendations and at times went the exact opposite direction.

No surprise he is now at the point of pulling the engine out.

Why does he even bother asking the questions if he isn't going to listen?

It kills me to read each thread but it's like a drug…. At this point I just can't stop.

you must be doing drugs...I asked him what gasket he used with his heads and enigne. He has a MAGNUM BLOCK AND MAGNUM HEADS... I HAVE A LA BLOCK AND MAGNUM HEADS. I did not find a head gasket that was magnum based that was .039-.040. The one he has would work and I was going to get it or the better version which would be the 519sd, but they are too thick. So get off my ***!:stfu:

The head gasket and block combo only matter if your oiling through the head. In whicxh, worst case senerio, you can punch in your own holes for the oil feed.

Fel-Pro makes gaskets @ .039 & .054 thick. Thinner ones are available.

A "LA" block and "Magnum" head set up can use ethier style of head gasket, Magnum or LA without issue.

I'm not sure there isnt an issue with the cooling passages on the head's deck surface... I seem to recall there being posts about that. If the gaskets didnt seal the coolant holes right it might cause that leak. Taking the old gaskets off and matching them up to the head surface would show that if it was the case.

I have the MP 0.028-0.032" ones on my LA block/Mag head "hybrid" 318.

So you know after I talked to Cometic about the RHS water jacket issue they finally fixed it and changed their Die to accommodate these heads!!! They did it 3 weeks too late for my 410 with Indy/Rhs heads or they would have been on it!

haha, well I got the motor back together and I used the regular LA head gaskets. I dont think my head gasket had a problem. Im going to drop the motor back in and see how it runs.

haha ya you said that, but with the dowl pins in the motor it only lets me put them on a certain way

Without finding what where and why you have a leak?Or did you find the cause?

I am hoping that it all works out for you.......try not to RUSH anything when putting it back together is my advise. Easy to forget or mess something up when I try an hurry..........maybe it's just me?:-D

The head gasket looked fine.. The heads are new... Im think that it was when I put the front cover and intake back on from the camshaft change because when I did a pressure test on the cooling system one of the bolts was leaking and I think the leak from the bolt on the timing cover was leaking into the motor. Im hoping that everything is good now and when I install it Im going to use cheap oil to flush it and then regular oil....Hopefully there wont even be anything in the cheap oil and I can finally just drive the dam car.

So my advise may have helped on the timing cover bolts?? Remember to always use some type of gasket sealer on them threads! I use gasgasinch.

Well good luck and I hope it works out for you.We all know how much time you,ve been chasing these issues. It,s time to enjoy it,keep an eye on your oil and don,t run overpriced oil.
