Looking into buying a house not sure if where I live is where I want to live the rest of my life. Sick of paying rent.

What made you say "Yep this is the place to be"

The tax write off makes HUGE sense. With historically low interest rates and very good bargains on homes make the move NOW!! Perfect time to do it.

I was approved for 80,000 5.5 int. I was shocked at my credit score 790!!! Everything that I have looked at is crap. I would like to live on a farm (I rent a farm place now and love it) but cant pick one up for less then 120,000. Have been doing some calculating and don't want to spend more than 72,000 (with the kickback that ends in April)

I agree! I want to buy too but I am very picky and can't find something that I want in my price range.

Well you may have to settle for a non farm at this time. Buy a starter house. Get in now when interest and prices are good and a few years down the road hopefully things will be better and you can make some money.

for some reason, I feel the same way as Frank. For some reason, I like GA (I moved here at age 12 and have been here 7 and a half years) and have this feeling im gonna end up not leaving this state. Only reason I would leave is because of the weather and its affect on the cars we love so much, that and its generally wacky. But a lil POR-15 and some TLC takes care of the rust. The weather on the other hand is out of my control. But I really like it here, I feel like everything is reasonably priced, the people are ok and are from every other state and equal in numbers to natibe georgians, the cops are generally bias as anywhere, most of the people are open minded, equal balance of poor and rich and inbetween. but the poor are growing. We have a meth problem. And everything is atleast 2 miles away.

I grew up in Newark, NJ. A city kid. But now I'm a southerner??
Me 8 years ago would kick my @##. LOL

Keep looking. Sooner or later a house will catch your eye and you'll know that it's gonna be home. You may have to settle on some things because of the price range you limit yourself to but that's just reality

Where I live its basically live in town (where I work) and pay half house payment half taxes. Or drive 20 miles to work and live in a town with gravel streets.

In a perfect world a farm house would come up for sale in my price range and I would turn the farm land into a drag strip.

What are some things you guys SETTLE on. Right now the must haves are garage, basement, yard that is big enough to stop drop and roll, decent kitchen (girlfriend and I love to cook).

I ended up where I was born and raised. Literally. I grew up in the house I live in now. Right in the middle of the family farm. I love it.

Hmmmm Hooked up a towbar to the front of my 64 dart convertable and then hooked it to the back of my 66 dart gt convertable and filled it with everything I couldnt sell, fired em up and drove to florida to visit my dad that had said anytime(heheheheheheheh) 6 a.m. too early???? lived with pops for a lil' while then rented a house for a while and had saved up money and bought the place next to pop's he makes a great neighbor except he stole my dawg!!!!! I'll let it slide she visits every day or so

80K wouldn't buy a 800 sq. ft. condo here. Even in the worst part of town.

Got to get approved for 220K for anything remotely decent.

Dont everyone move to Texas :D

My wife and I have both lived in SoCal all of our lives. We've seen other places we'd both like to live in, but where we are now...the mountains (and snow in the winter) are 1.5 hours away, the beach is 30 minutes away, and the desert is 1.5 hours away.
If the pilgrims had originally landed on the west coast, would anybody have ever gone east?

Buy something now and enjoy the tax writeoffs.

Depends what 70k buys in your area. Here you couldn't buy crap for that money. He'll I sold my lil 2 bedroom house no basement, no garage and a 50x100 lot for 130k a few years ago. I settled with no garage because it's what I could afford at the time $62,000. But the house I had to do nothing to but move in and some painting to my taste. All I did was add a shed in the yard , did some changes to the landscape and put $1000 into the bathroom and that was it. Doubled my money in about 7 years on it. Yes at times it sucked not having a garage but it's what I could afford at the time . No regrets. The house was very good to me

Lived in PA all of my life. Getting tired of the winters, but we dont have any type of natural disasters except for an occasional small tornado.

The farther away from a big city, the lower the housing costs usually. You can save a lot of money if you dont mind driving an hour to work.
This is especially true of farms. Near a city, the farms get bought up and become housing developments, so the farms become more valuable.
In small towns, the farms are just farms, so they go for a lot less. At least that's the way it is around here.

i looked for a house for 2 years, and finally settled on a small old house with no garage. i just made sure the yard was big enough to build at least a 2 car garage as money allowed. took me another 2 years to finish my shop. i had to make due as i couldnt find much in my price range. my house is for sale now, and i will most likely rent when it sells and just rent a storage bay in town. when i can retire , i will be going south to nc or sc. i am only here because i grew up here and this is where my family is.its always cold and rainy/snowy and i cant wait to start enjoying warmer climate someday.
