hey guys, just thought I would post some crappy pics of slant 6 carnage. this is how I got stuck on the side of a major Highway 450 miles from home on a holliday weekend. I got 30 miles outside of detroit on her maiden voyage before blowing a hole thru the hood and taking out the bumper of the guy tailgating me.

Damn it sure let loose! How fast were you going when that happened.I blew a 67 GTO up ontime many years ago and the crankshaft came out in three pieces!

Holy Crap Batman! Talk about severe engine death! I don't think I've ever seen a cam in that many pieces or a rod bent quite that bad. Ugly......

It's been said that at the end of civilzation there will on be Rats, Roaches, and Slant Sixes still alive. You've done the seemingly impossible.

Take a bow.....:wav:

All kidding aside, sorry to hear of your disasterous trip.

"....and taking out the bumper of the guy tailgating me."

LOL, he'll probably never tailgate another Dart! I've never heard of a slant six coming apart. What's your plans on engine replacement?

Rats, just not chevy rats-LOL

ive blown up 2 225's.. one was spun bearing, due to low oil and the other was just really old and one of the carb flap screws came loose and got sucked into the engine and i have no idea what happened other then that to it because i never pulled it apart

good all round motors tho.. for everyday use.
just not very fun motors.

i cant wait for my 360 to go in after i take this 170 i have into the ground..

I had a Chrysler Ind 225 in a piece of equipment make a rod look like yours. The rod broke at the thin spot at the rod bolt head. The cap was still bolted to the pieces of rod in the pan. The rod that came out of the equipment had no piston attached to it, was a twisted rod with a wrist pin attached to it. I found it in the belly of the equipment, it pitched it out the motor.
The operator said it was still running at speed when he shut it down. The reason he shut it down was to look because of the noise and oil leak from the window in the block.

wow that sucks man, did u throw the #5 rod by chance that is the most common rod to throw, any pics of the engine block, that would look intresting, man that sucks though but at least u can get a replacement engine real cheap, where u rodding it cause i know my dart wagon couldnt go 70 for long(real low rear gear). good luck on the new engine swap/rebuild

here is my wagon's slant when i got it, dads friend threw a rod on the interstate, had to throw in a end photo, dam it looks pretty, like show car quality its a good feeling when you acomplish something so great(its my first engine swap be gental lol)

Here's a picture of the engine block. I wasn't really Rodding it. I had just got up to highway speed when it blew. My guess is it spun a bearing. when I got the oil pan off there was about a half pound of metal shavings and hcunks of the piston floating around. I have a 360 I pulled from a van that I would like to put in it but I'm still looking for an 8 3/4. I also have a mystery Engine I picked up from a buddy.not sure what it is but its a mopar. I just put in another slant 6 from a 72 demon with 26,000 miles on the clock. still don't have it running yet though. this is the first time I've ever turned a wrench so it may take awhile.........

sounds like my luck :( my 360 ate the air cleaner stud on my way to work
And you thought someone did it to you on purpose? I kinda wondered after you posted what you found in the intake manifold, but felt it better to let it alone as it is a bummer to have an engine destroyed and nobody but ourselves to blame. Hope you both get them fixed.
