My 67 225 Has a a Holley 1920 on it right now that runs like **** I was informed that a Carter carb would be better for it but the fuel line would have to be relocated.
Any opinions on switching the carbs out? Or Just get a rebuilt Holley?

Carb size is the biggest issue with a /6 or any engine and how well it is tuned. Holley, Carter or what ever, it doesn't matter. Holleys and Carters are easy to rebuild yourself for a fraction of paying someone to do it.

One issue to find out first is how the throttle shaft is. Is it leaking air?

I would avoid a parts house rebuild of either, it will be a waste of cash. Buy a rebuild kit, a couple cans of Gumout and go to town. Both the Holley 1920 and Carter BBS are about as simple as carbs get (except a Rochester B) and would be a great first rebuild. Follow the instructions in the kit, and score a Factory Service Manual if possible.

The above assumes your current carb hasn't been screwed up by some DSPO and the throttle shaft isn't sloppy loose in the throttle body.

I bought a holley one barrel brand new, I had to special order it twice because they are so hard to find, it cost me 185.00

There are no "new" Holley 1920 carburetors...only rebuilt/remanufactured.

who is the best source for a rebuild-kit for the Holley. I have struck out with local auto parts stores.

Rebuilt carbs tend to be junk; see here.

Holley 1920 vs. Carter BBS, see here.

Walker. Also put in a new float; the 1920 uses a nitrophyll foam float that takes on fuel and gets heavier than it's supposed to be over the years. See here.

That'll come as a surprise to those who've been steadily buying-down my stash of new (not remanufactured or rebuilt) slant-6 carburetors. ;-) You're right there are none presently being manufactured, but there are still some NOS units floating around.

Thanks Dan: Does a 68 Holley use the same kit (15519A and float 100-14) as the site indicated for that 72 or something different because of the pre-emissions regulations.

Dan is correct. I replaced my rebuilt, replaced holley 1920 with a NOS Carter I bought from him. Car runs great. Also, the gas line re routing was no big deal to use the Carter. If you can find an NOS one, buy it.
