Don't set wrenches on the battery.

Remember to remove the wrench from the front of the crank before firing the motor. :blackeye:

Put the drain plug back in the oil pan, before adding clean oil.
When you Put the oil filter on, make sure the old filters gasket is already off.

Be sure the gas line is hooked to the carb, and Not leaking,
before you try to break in a new Engine/cam. :angry4:

Righty tighty, lefty loosey, BUT, some Mopars have left hand lugs,
and its possible to put the drums on the "wrong side". Oops.

Please use jack stands.

The hotter the engine oil, when changing it, the more likely some will get on you.

If your car has an odd miss/occasional backfire;
Get the Chiltons book out, and be SURE, the plug wires are on correctly,
Before you pull the heads off, to have a valve job done. Doh! :wack:

If its not an emergency, and your tired, pack up the tools,
it is when your most likely to get hurt or break something.
 
No matter how much you want to, don't use WD40 and a lighter to make a flame thrower.

I've shorted batteries more than once, came close on the wrench.

Did accidentally leave a trouble light in the rad. shroud. :lol: Farm equip. is so much easier to work on..........lotsa room and able to stand.

i watched a guy lean over a frontend to check something
and his dog tags dropped into the fan
i also watched as a guy put in a new battery and as he
tightened the + side he welded a wrench, his class ring
and a fender together

the 1st guy was cut on the temple by his eye
the 2nd was badly burned as he yanked his finger
from a red hot ring :headbang:

jewelry is bad mojo for a mechanic
 
when you can picture your tools slipping off of what you are working on and hurting yourself and still keep on doing it.
 
one good tip: done use a trouble light(exposed blub) around gas/gas tank or any flamible substance, I learned the hard way :( :angry4:,

If your kick down linkage is disconnected i sugest you remove the linkage, cause on my cuda the linkage got jamd in the throtle and air cleaner, pretty much stuck full throttle around a corner, man that was scary lucky im smart and shut the car off :goodman:

Never run a 904 or 727 without kickdown linkage unless you have a manual vb... :violent1: :axe:
 
This just keeps getting better and better, I thought I was the only one that was prone to brain freeze. Oh I almost forgot, (again) when you young lads reach the golden years you can all, and I mean all, look forward to short term memory loose. That's when you take out a bolt, a spark plug or a wrench and set it down and forget where you set it. Hell, last night I took off my glasses and it took me 30 minutes to find them. I'm going to hang a bag around my neck to put everything in next time. ](*,)

I do that now, i just turned 19 lol
 
Well this isn't really a no-no, but my Cuda ate a big spider once. Air cleaner was off when I fired 'er up, and quarter-sized wolf spider got injested by the carb... he just came out of hiding at the wrong point in time I guess...

The itsy bitsy spider
Climbed up the Eddy 650cfm
Down came the butterflies
And sucked the spider in
Out came the fuel
And fried up the poor spider
And the itsy bitsy spider
Never climbed up the carb again
 
Too funny!!

Never adjust a Pertronix Ignition with a steel feeler gauge... use a brass one - the car will never run right if you do. (Carb backfire will occur - with flames!)

I had dual exhaust on a 1972 Satellite, in 1977,
and the passenger side had a misfire, and if dark out a flame was visible,
out the passenger side exhaust pipe.

Tried new plugs, new wires, new cap, all replaced One at a time,
so the firing order did not change.

Pulled the heads off, and had a valve job done,
some of the valves were bad; put back together, still had the same problem.

Got the old Chiltons book out, 2 wires on the passengerside of the engine, wires were swapped. {They were like that when I got the car}

well i dunno if you call it the kick down linkage, its the linkage to the trans so when u floor the thottle the car down shifts, its disconected, it always has been....i have a b&m shifter on the floor if that matters, any sugestions, man now i feel like an idiot :sad1:
 
Don't ever "think you can make it" with just the two rear drums. If you don't die of a heart attack you'll die after footing the bill for someone else's rear end.
 
Always locate a good/full fire extinquisher when starting a new motor. I had an engine catch fire in the winter time when everything was frozen in the shop. The power steering line failed and the headers ignited the oil. I shut her down but could not find anything to put out the fire. Hose was frozen... Water bucket frozen solid. The shop owner showed up with an extiquisher and put out the fire. It saved his shop and my restored '73 Plymouth 360 Sports Coupe. It took me a couple of months to repaint and change the wiring and brake booster. A lot cheaper then a new shop and new car!

Always know where the fire extinquishers are!
 
I always keep a fire extinguisher in the shop and in my '71 Cutlass. As soon as my Dart hits the road it'll carry one too. I've seen more than one burned car at the side of the road.
