I've often wondered if the term "bolt right in" is ever an accurate description of how things go in the shop.

Goes along with "some assembly required"..... 8)

On my car about the only thing that bolted on were my wheels.

"Bolts right in" tends to mean that you don't need to break out a plasma torch and welder to get it in....it however doesn't take into account "Murphy's Law" which tends to take precedence during any wrench work, and also negates to mention the "slight modifications" that always needs to be done due to loose tolerances of all mass produced objects.

OK, this didn't work the way I wanted it to. Walked away from the computer before posting the poll and SHAZAMMM!! Can't add my poll.

1. No problem-o, went on as told.
2. A little more involed than expected but OK.
3. Why wasn't I told I need that extra part to make it work?!?!
4. It's now 2a.m.----Aaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!

hate when the labor guild calls for this time but it takes 3 or 4 times longer/ but after you do it ones you learn the real time

Bolts right on usually means only that it has bolt holes in it.
" You can literally stand 10 feet away and throw it on your car or truck".
That wasn't Billy Mayes
it was Red Green LOL
Next line.. "That'll buff out".

Flatlander #1 is what I shoot for, it takes time and you have to care about the poeple reciving your product I do. But we are just a little mom and pop shop. We can get #2,3,4 anywhere!!! JMO

Well, I have found most things that are bolt right on bolt right on, but there is always exception's to the rule.

Maybe after 2 hours of preparation. Otherwise, it only happens about 1% of the time.

in the world of after market parts, the only thing bolt in are spark plugs.
stock is stock, it's the part revision for certain year and month cars that pisses a lot of us off.
look at ford tranny in f 150's, starters in nissan's etc...

I have owned approximately 25 cars, have done all my own wrenching (from economic necessity, not enthusiasm, I can tell you), and one thing I can say with absolute certainty is: If it's not a starter swap on a slant six, it's a complete and utter PITA.

You don't know how many times I wished I could fly to Germany to kick Mercedes engineers right square in the Mutternhoden!

I don't consider a job complete until there is blood on the floor!!!!!!
open new part box, compare to old, start cursing, blood pressure rises.... grab a beer,
more cursing, try and make part work, beer, cursing, beer, throw something(not your beer). try to calm down, more beer, let crap on garage floor, turn off lights, go into house, put bandage on cut(s), more beer. See pattern, fall asleep, wake up with hangover, return to garage, part goes right in.............
We do this cause it's fun.....right?????????????

ok im glad its not just me,,,

Bolt right in parts, you must be kidding.
As an Industrial Mechanic, Millwright for those who know the trade, I seen just about every part to make Plywood Plants and Sawmills run along with 39 years of wrenching/racing Mopar cars and trucks.
I don't think I can remember a job that all the parts just bolted in. Most parts just need a little massaging to work right and that's the nature of the beast, so break out the tools and get to work.

.........yeah, bolts right on........kinda like a set of hedders for an A body......especially the cheaper ones.........

yea some things will bolt right on but most you gota insert part a into part b there turn that dumaflache 90 degree angle the pow you have you fluxcapacitor.

the only things that are bolt on is factory replacement parts and even that a stretch i did the front disk brake conversion on my friends valiant and it said bolt on but there was clearance issues and it ended up being a clusterfuck. until i busted out the grinder.lol

i never needed mine so much till i started rebuilding old cars.
its getting ridiculous carquest keeps telling me I'm paying there light bill just from buying grinder blades and pb blaster.lol
