Hope someone can help me decide.

I have read about the differences between these two and from what I gather, the annulars enable you to run a carb that would normally not run so well down low, and they better atomize fuel. But they can also restrict flow and atomize too much in heat to rob power. How are the doglegs in the same situation?

I see that most of you guys run 850s on stroked smallblocks with no chokes.
How do they run with just the doglegs? How is the idle quality and how do they drive on the street?

Am I sweating this over nothing?
I'm kind of lost because I havent messed with a carb in like 12 years....

Thoughts?

I am looking at a quickfuel Q series 850, or maybe a mighty demon.
I see the annulars are more expensive, and was wondering if they were worth it.

I just ordered a holley 750 hp and they come with down leg boosters.
I was also interested in the annular boosters and might try them in the future.
They only cost $89 bucks or so.
I notice that they are used on larger cfm rated carbs ,and i would think this is because your dealing with a larger (bore\barrel) on these carbs, and they help with velocity and atomization.
If you get one of the best carbs they sell,be it a holley, demon or a quick fuel carb,it's just the start of all the choices you will have to make in tuning it in to your motor.
I just spent $646 on a holley hp and then noticed the holley ultra carb at close to a grand.
I can't swing that one ,but my point is you can always spend more and add stuff to your carb later as long as it's one of the high end carbs.

I was talking to one of the best racers at the drag way, and i asked him what he though of annular boosters?
He liked them, but he also liked the down leg boosters too.
What it means is ,he uses both.
I would make sure you get a good carb first.
I like holley's ,but that's all i know about.
I was looking at the quick fuel carbs also, but am going to stick with what i know works.
I had down leg boosters in my 750 carb and thats what i will get with my new carb.
I will jet it the same and set it up the same and go to the track and see what happens.
The only way to test something new is to change only one part at a time.
I will change my carb first and then try the annular boosters to see if it makes any usable difference.
Why can't we leave are cars alone?
That wouldn't be any fun though.
GOOD LUCK IN YOUR QUEST FOR SPEED :thumblef:

Annulars are better, especially on the street. Cold air intake source helps cure hot symptoms.
Yes, the doglegs are less of a restriction. (10-15 cfm??)
............just my .02..........(depends on the application as to the choice)

For what it's worth, I've had an annular 850 Speed Demon and a dogleg Big's Holley 850 on my 440 and both seemed to run about the same as far as throttle response goes. No noticeable difference on the top end either, up to 5,500 anyway.

I just pulled my holley 850 downleg off and replaced it with a Quickfuel annular 950 from Muscle Motors, and out of the box the throttle response and starting was greatly improved.
