I've been working on my car for about a year and a half now and Im no where as close as I figured I would be right now. The car isnt street ready and so much has to still be done on it.

Now life has moved in and I am losing my workspace. Though the trans is in. I just thought I would be able to work at a good steady pace and not cut corners. But now I'll have to go back to jack stands and flash lights for who knows how long.

I'll be starting on my Dart this weekend and after all the stories of 1-6 yrs to get them back together I will be pulling the motor/trans/rear, cleaning the engine compartment and putting it back together. I plan on driving it while working on the body not working on it for the next 1-6 yrs. It going to be a driver, (doing the speed limit of course) LOL

Dude, don't feel bad.
It seems that every step on my car took a year and a half.

8 years total.

I had to buy a turn key 71 swinger special just to have something cool that actually drove while I was building the cuda because it was driving me nuts. LOL.

I know what you are talking about. I am still in the financing stage. It seams every time I get the money together some thing more pressing comes along and buy buy resto.

I feel that way every time I look at my two project cars. I find that breaking the whole project down into smaller projects, you get a sence of accomplishment after each smaller job gets done. Hang in there and just keep thinking about the first drive when its all done.

you are not alone my friend, would be nice if you could put the rest of your life on pause so you could get the car done....

Yep, mine is a "driving project"... still have yet to get around to painting it... building a shop and then a house came first.... I have been doing the mechanical stuff on it over the last 8 years though.... LOL.... I just replaced the circuit board behind the speedo Tuesday night so the dash lighs would work... (replaced it with dash in car... oh what fun!)

I started with my Dart...318 factory air with four wheel drum brakes....stepped up to a flat tappet 340 with a disc brake conversion and had to step up to a 8 3/4" rear with 355 posi....next I pulled the motor and changed it to a hypo 340 full roller motor...then my friend Paul sold me a complete 440 with tranny for $200....what a pain in the *** the 440 has been getting it in and running....I know what you mean...8)

Day after day after day after day after month after month after month after year after year after year............slowly but surely....one day....sooner or later......too soon to say.......I well know the feeling after 8 looooooooong years.

Wow what a concept. Now i,m car shopping. dang you spaz

Mean I got my truck which is a fun cruiser, I want to put my money into the Cuda. If I had the extra cash I'd buy this formula s 45 minutes away from me.

But for that money I could add some pretty cool mods to my current Cuda.

I'm just feeling low now that spring is here and all the cool mopars are out cruising.

I always tell everyone that it took me 6 years and 2 girlfriends to get mine done. Jayson

I bought my Barracuda one year into my Comet build. Worked on both cars for one summer and realized I would never finish either that way. I put the Barracuda into storage and took another 4 years to finish my Comet. As soon as it was finished I got the Barracuda out and started on it thinking a 2 year build with my new found experience. I am now thinking four years if I am lucky and don't run out of $$$$$$. But I am looking for the next one now8)

I've had my car for NINE YEARS....... Still not even close to being finished... call me back in 5 years and let me know how you are doing :D

The Cuda in my Avatar took me 10 years to put back on the road after finding it in a field behind a job I did. At no time during those 10 years did I think I would never get it done. I just kept plugging away and doing the best job I could. And this was back when nobody was doing the early A's and NOBODY was repopping anything for them. I was lucky to have a few guys who knew I was redoing one and would save parts just for me because...well, I was the only one rediong one and I was their only customer!!!

I agree that it helps to have another Mopar to enjoy while the project is going on, and I've never had less than 3 cars at one time, sometimes up to 5 or 6. My biggest problem is buying parts cars and then spending too much time parting them out for you guys who need parts, instead of spending time working on my list of to-do's. But hey, you guys need parts to get yours done too, and thats how we roll here at Mobro Inc. Now, quit chattin' and get under, in or at those projects!! Times a wastin!!! Geof

It just takes a long time.

Either you take it off the road, and it sits for a while as life happens...

Or plans change and it takes more work/different direction...

Or it is a "driver", which takes more work cause you gotta do the preventative stuff, and fix what breaks to keep it on the road...

Anyway you slice it, it is a bummer how long it takes, and the time you "lose" from your initial schedule.

THE GOOD NEWS it that FABO helps me (and I assume all of us) stay interested, keep learning, keep working, and hopefully finish the job someday.

FABO Keeps it goin!

5yrs ago I started getting serious about it. Owned it for 12yrs. Last 2 1/2yrs been it storage since I moved. Expect many yrs to come ahead still. But I love it!!

Sorry to rain on everyones parade but you're NEVER finished with these cars. There's always something different to try out or imporovement to be made. Examples that come to mind are, that's a dam pretty intake right there and I think I need to try one of those or better yet, I never liked the routing of that harness I think I'll change it. Hell that's the beauty of this addiction, you're always (at least I do) dreaming up "what ifs".:read2:

I am burned out and starting to feel like I can never get one done for myself. I have started turning down jobs. When I am complete on the current resto for a friend I will get mine done. I have told myself this so many times.
I am thinking of buying one already completed and selling my 3 future projects.

I have TWO under construction and neither has an engine or trans in it. I am going to just put one together and drive it and be more thorough on the one that I have more money in.
