The Taillights Are Staying On. I Pull The Head Light Switch And They Get Brighter, Brake Lights Work, Signal Lights Work, All Works Fine Except The One Element In The Bulb Is Staying On. Its The Larger One Of The Two. Is This A Bad Ground Or Has My Switch Bit The Big One. Both Sides. 72 duster.

Are your hazards pulled? I had accidently had it pulled and did same thing. The hazard flasher took a crap and just turned them on instead of making them flash. It took bumping into it and the heat coming off of it gave it away.

Just Tried That And They Work Just Fine. Thanks Anyway.

Could be a fried brake light switch or the switch is just out of adjustment. Loosen the adjustment screw and slide the switch toward the brake pedal arm until the lights go out. If the lights don't go out, you need a switch.

sounds like something else is using it as a ground. Wish I had a diagram will look. post if you got it fixed.

It Is Adjusted Correct. If I Unplug Both Wires Going To Brake Light Switch Then The Lights Should Be Off, Is This Correct. If So Looks Like I Will Need A New Switch. When I Pull My Switch They Get Brighter As Both Filaments Are On. Release And Only The Larger One Is On.

Ok This Morning After Doing A Little Research I Now Know That The Problem Is In The Brake Lights. Large Brighter Of The Two Filaments Is Brakes. So Checked Cont In The Brake Switch And Its Fine, So I Am To Beleive Its A Ground Somewhere But Checked Them All, Not Real Good At The Schematic's Of A Light Diagram. Any Help Would Be Greatly Appreciated. I Do Have One Of The Net.

All I can tell ya now is brake lights run through the signal switch.I installed a new signal switch last year and if the signal leaver is not in the right shut off mode one rear light stays lit, left or right. You need Redfish to help here.

Lets do so basic troubleshooting. With the ignition switch turned off. Fuse marked brakes is one of very few hot at all times. Remove that fuse and see if the rear lights are still on. If they are the problem is in the wiring.Check for power at the brake light switch. Should be none.
If the brake lights went off when fuse was pulled, put the fuse back and check the brake lamp switch with a test light. There should be power on only one of the 2 wires there. If both wires are hot the switch is bad. Let us know your results and we'll proceed.

I Did Have The Steering Wheel Off To Put In A New Ignition Switch In Maybe After I Check The Wiring I'll Pull Off The Wheel Again To See If I Have Somthing Wrong There, Thanks Guys.

I had this happen on my 68 dart. Im not sure how but somehow the push switch at the brake pedal was engaging. I might have bumped it, I dont know. I just tweaked it a little so it wasn't under pedal pressure and it was fine.

Ok Pulled Fuse #7 Which I Pretty Sure Is Brake Lights And Lights Stayed On. Checked The Switch It Is Fine, Could It Be In The Column When I Replaced My Key Switch.
