Budget Build 70 Swinger

-
I found one of those in the trunk of my '70 Dart Swinger, I would like to know what it is as well.

  • Purple: Beautiful with a white top and stripe
  • Red: Too common, and mom seems to believe red cars attract cops... I believe my Dart at 115 m.p.h. attracts cops too:snakeman: (and yes, that's a true story, minus the cops)
  • Burn't Orange: Another nice color when combined with white contrasts
  • The Green: Appears to be snakeskin green from the Vipers, but I don't really know
  • Go Mango: Isn't that more appropriate on a B-body or E-body? (just my $.002)
  • Black: Excellent either as straight black or with said white contrasts. But be warned, black shows scratches way too well.
  • The Gray: Now that would be nice with a black vinyl top, stripe and hood treatment.
  • The stock FF4 Light Metallic Green: An excellent color, at first I HATED it and planned on painting the car plum crazy so I could name it "Purple Haze." But, alas, it grew on me:love7:... I now plan on repainting it FF4 green.

Very good insight...Isn't your car FY4 light gold poly like mine though? Or are you saying that you are going to paint yours FF4 light green poly? my original FY4 paint has really grown on me too! I keep thinking I should just repaint the original color, keep the black vinyl top, add a black bumblebee stripe, hood scoops, and blackout hood treatment and I'd be set!

I'm sorry, mine is FY4 gold... my mistake

Glad I good give good commentary on setting up good color schemes on Darts. That just shows how much I've thought about what color mine will be.:-D

Oh trust me, I know exactly what you are talking about...I've been planning the repainting of my Dart for 5 years now and have changed my mind literally hundreds of times. Right now I'm debating between the FY4 and EK5 burnt orange metallic. Of course my paint job is still a year or so away, so I'm bound to change my mind a few more times ;)

My son is still thinking purple with a white bumble bee and black hood and top. Or sublime with black hood top and tail. I still think the sublime with the black, now for one thing the bumpers are not in the best shape and for the budget im thinking paint them body color. And i think the sublime would look better than the purple. Ive seen quite a fue this way, and its an easy fix and not that bad to have them chromed later on. Remember this is a budget build, (restomod) a nice looking streetable and fast car :burnout:

I tell you what you dont want anything rubbing at 28 but a 128 thats just krazy:toothy10: you runnin twin turbos on an A, B,or RB ? eather way it sounds like some bad a$$ fun:cheers: I had a 2.2 turbo that was fast as hell stock.

Thats the twin turbo 68. The car I had to relocate the axle in my 70 swinger. Its a pump gas 360 that runs 11s on the motor and 10s on a 150 shot of nitrous. I really like your guys car and the fact that your taking time to do something of value with your kids. Good job.

Thanks turbodart that swinger is cool and fast. How did you move your axel back? Its been a slow start but my son is working for the money and im doing most the work at work untill school gets out. I have more room and better tools to work with there. He still works on the car when he can, But school comes first, and hes in football, track and drama plus work, very little time for him to work on the car.:burnout:

I picked up the frontend parts tonight, man they look good. Ill take some pics tomarrow. Now we need to buy all the parts to put it back together
$$$$ but it will be safe and should stop way better:-D

Before and after pics, plus the disc brake 4.5s the welds on that K member, i think my blind grandma could weld better than that. But someone did beat the **** out of that 340 swinger for 30 years before i parted it out. and it didnt fail.

Lucky! I want to run 4.5 discs on my dart with some Chrome Road Wheels. That's what you should do too, the Road Wheels are sweet.

I made a new front hanger that was adjustable up and down. It just moved the spring eye rearward. It worked great and no one ever noticed. Some people noticed the 28 inch tire and asked how I did it without stretching the wheel opening.

The road wheels look good i have them on my 70 Road Runner. But my son already bought some sloted mags. Funny story about the brakes, i got all that stuff free. And even the blasting was done for free. The guy i got the brakes from, bought my old 69 340 swinger. And the front end stuff is from that. He gave it back with another k member from a 74 A body with the discs and some B body disc brake stuff too. He said he needed to downsize. and my son bought the wheels from him too for $120

Thanks Matt. Ive had the Road Runner for 23 years and im in the middle of an engine rebuild, 383 just a little refresh. needs seals and stuff, it turns 40 on the 10 of July. and by the way so does my sons swinger, build date 10 July 1970

UPDATE I just ordered the quarters and all the front end and disc brake stuff, got most of it on friday. The rest on monday. The quarters are due in next week. That sucks, ill be in Cali. for the next two weeks, leaving this sat. But when i get back game on.

Leaving for Duty for 15 days. Ill have all the parts and the quarters. when i get back. then we might just get this thing done.

Looking good! I have a new 1/4 for the pass side, now just need the driver side.

We havent been able to do anything to the Dart. His other car broke and he has to drive the Swinger. Cant pull the whole front end apart and add the new disc and stuff in an evening. so im going to work on the Toyota so he can go back to driving it.

Well got the toyota fixed, but not before someone hit the dart. thats right his first wreck, not his falt he was sitting in the parking lot just got his hair cut and a elderly woman in a new F350 backed into him. The good news she hit the left rear quarter just above the wheel missed everything else. Good thing i just got the new quarters:-D Ill get some pics in the morning. Cant wait to see what the ins.co. says.

Well just got the check from the ins. co. $1400 bucks. The car might just get done faster. Got some trunk floor drop offs and well be ordering a new trunk floor. We were going to fix the tire well and patch some holes, but with the new found money we figure why not. Its been so fn hot i dont want to do anything when i get home, I work in a hot shop all day.
