If you think you have the original engine, I would definitely try to keep it. They didn't stamp the blocks with the VINs back then, but it should have a stamp with the production date. If those dates are in the same ballpark, it is a pretty safe bet that the are a matched pair.

Definitely the original engine of the car . . . he rebuilt the original engine about 28K miles ago . . . I know the previous owner, a sweet elderly man I have known for years. Everyone remembers him driving it around a college campus when he was a professor 46 years ago! I am excited about getting the car up to full running speed . . . it is going to be my daily driver to the same campus this fall! That's my goal anyway. :-D
