This Saturday I drop the Barracuda (and a couple thousand dollars....) off at the body shop. My odyssey begins.....

Barracuda001-vi.jpg

She's NOT a rust bucket. Inner fender wells and frame is rock solid. That's just surface rust from me not giving a rats-*** if it was clean or not....I knew it was being painted eventually.
Barracuda002-vi.jpg

I found the build sheet under the rear seat cushion. Plus a ton of these little friggen nutshells.... Some furry little critter had taken up residency at one time. No fresh turds were observed....
Barracuda003-vi.jpg

Again, surface rust on the tops of the front pans. Even if they were shot, no big deal. I'm more worried about the mongo ape-boy hack I did on the transmission hump.

Isn't that pretty? The original color, which I'm loving the more I see of it.

I was tempted to sawzall the damn drivers side header out, but I figure someone on a budget could use them. I'll drop the center link tomorrow and remove it.

All in all, I got a lot accomplished today. I have maybe 2-3 hours of dis-assembly before it goes bye-bye.

I'm soooo psyched!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks guys... as far as budget, I think I'm in good shape. I have twice the money put aside than what I was quoted. I just hope I don't need to hit it. A new set of TTI's and some new harnesses are the biggies I know I need. Plus I'm sure there's going to be a couple hundred dollars worth of little things I'll have to pick up.

As for the shop itself, they do nice work:

This is my friend Chris' `68. They did a NICE job on it. And his car was pretty scarey when they started. Can you believe this car was YELLOW at one time?

Dont forget the $700 worth of weatherstripping, body gaskets and body bumpers your going to need to put it back together.

Same color as my 68 Dart. PPG used to call it Surf. I really like that color.

This should make very interesting reading.

Good lord.... I hope I don't have ANY stories, rants, or rambles with this deal. But I'm sure there's going to be SOMETHING. ......

Like the last chunk of Skylab will finally drop from the sky and KO the car when it's finished....:-#

Or the thousand for lense's and re-chroming the taillight housings....and maybe another $4-500 for having the grills refinished. Throw in the trunk pieces too for another couple hundred. And let's not forget those side marker lights and the gas cap....or bumpers.

I-MUST-BE-NUTS..........:tongue3:

It sucks doesnt it. Should have bought a Dart. They are alittle cheaper.

Yep it is a great feeling to see the car go bye bye. It almost like sending a kid off to school hoping they come back alright.

Here's mine going bye bye last week.

I'm hoping to see mine for spring break... how about you? 8)

Is there something wrong with that pic. Isn't that a Ford ( aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh). Hope they get done right with very few hickups. Good luck guys.

Hope to get mine back in November. [-o< Luckily I don't have to worry about the weather here in SoCal. My goal is to have it put together for the Spring Fling in LA. The Fall Fling is coming this weekend and I plan on getting lots of pictures and more ideas for my car. TTi will be there too so I am goingt o pick their brain about the early a-body headers they were supposed to have.

Yeah my paint and body guy does alot of Ferds and Chebbies. I had to tell him not to paint my engine bay freakin' black. Same for the trunk too. He's all to happy to do it since he doesn't have mask it off. Less work.

Good luck to you. Make sure and drop by the shop regularly to see the progress.

Funny you should mention that. I told the owner this morning that it's not unlike me to blow-off a 1/2 day at work and come visit at random times. He said to bring a camera to chart the progress! He claims the longer my car sits in the shop, the less money he makes.

Makes sense to me. Let's see what happens....

If it makes you feel any better John, mine sat for 3 months before being touched. I knew that going in though as they were finishing a resto a high $$ '70 'Cuda Convert and had just finished my friends '69 Daytona (scuff and paint only on that). I had a Mopar guy working on the car, but still had my problems with the shop... PM me for some stories if you really want to hear them. I can give ya some pointers to watch for too.... :thumblef:

I told my guy I want it back by March, he told me January! We'll see....

I appreciate the offer. Hoefully I'll be OK. After all, EVERYTHING can't be a bloody horror when it comes to this car. Right? RIGHT?!?!

You might get your wish ... Ford is in serious trouble! You'd rather perhaps see a Toyota in there? ... or, gulp, a Hyundia? Although, hey, for a daily driver

That's exactly what I did when the shop had my Duster. I have a running photo album of the work. Nice to look back on I think.
