Car shows are a joke!

-
we have a places called winks drive in they have a show every friday night and saterdays . they also have a bike night and other car days . sum times same stuff but differant stuff too. i can take my truck if i want and it,s not perfect by any means.

I don't go to shows for trophys, just to look at others cars talk with others and maybe get some ideas on some things i could do to our cars. We got over the trophy illness on our first build years ago. Besides my cuda is a turd in a punch bowl at most of the larger shows in my area [ crappy paint , dents and dings ,a little rust, 44 years old ] but i'm one of four 66 cudas in my area, the only one attending all functions i can possibly go to. Plus mopars are few around here.

I like going to the local cruise spots to see the different cars, some new, some old. The ones I don't like I just move on. I am always the only second gen Barracuda that shows up at the local spots.

Went to a cruise in swap on Sat 10 min from my place the weather was a little shi**y
so not to many mopars showed up!
Here's some pic's.

I enjoy attending the shows and the cruises. Not because of the trophys, but to meet new people, and you get to see a lot of the cars that are normally hidden away all year. And I find I get a lot of people asking me questions about my car, and I enjoy teaching people, and giving information. Same with the cruises, you get a lot of thumbs up while driving past the people on the sidewalks, and overhear a lot of 'I used to have one of those!'.. It puts a smile on my face seeing others do the same.

the igniters put on a show in town every friday in the summer here, one member has a 64 fury with a 426 hemi black with a red gut, and one has a 64 savoy with a long ram 413, white with a black gut, a lot of nice rides. I think car shows should have a under construction spot so people can see whats being done.

Why not worry about it, go to the event and enjoy talking with people. Everything else just doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things

I agree, most of the time you see the same stuff. How many 69 Camaro's or late 60's Chevelle's can you look at?

Yeah same thing here in the Mopar world also how many Chargers, Challengers, and Cuda's can you look at? Every year at the Nats in Columbus more and more "Fake Mopar Guys" are there showing off their Viper powered Cuda or 6.1 Hemi 70 Challenger running their mouth about how much money they have.... they get boring thats a big part of why I love the A-Body and some B's and most C's..... Even the mags run the same old crap every month.... The cover will always have either a Camaro Chevelle, Nova, Mustang, Vette, Cuda, Chally, or.... Charger

Last local show I went to a guy there had a nice 73 Charger but claimed it was all original blah blah blah but the car was loaded with R/T emblems..... How many 73 Charger R/T's were made with 440's and a Dana? None!

when I get to a show I talk to lots of people, not just the mopar guys and gals, I don't enter my scamp for the fact that it's no show pony, and I can pick it apart better than anybody, I built the car on my own in my 4 car garage that has just enough room to fit the scamp in, with all my tools and engines and other junk I refuse to part with, so I end up doing most of the work outside, Is it perfect? hell no, but it's mine and I love it to death:love7:
and my car will give a numbers matching purists a rash in witch they may never recover:bootysha: it's set up like it was when I got it straight out of the 70's
high and dry, headers, and wide meats in the rear 8) I did do away with the chrome reverse rims tho:cheers: and hand built my own panels, pulled a 4 inch cave in out of the passenger side quarter that was full of bondo:angry7: hammered and dollied every dent until it was straight, now block sanding the body so I can put on the final coat of primer then paint:cheers: then I'm going to drive the hell out of her8) and finish her up as I go, sorry to go long winded on you good fokes

Hats off to all people who have a passion for cars, be it classic, street rod, tricked trucks, ricers. Clean, dirty, rusty, perfect, whatever. To each his/her own.

I like going to car shows to look around.........not enter a car. Get's kinda old for me to get home from work late, try and ready a car on Friday night, hit the road by 8 a.m. Saturday, meet up with club members, fork out 10-15 bucks, sit around until 2-3p.m., pack-up and go home...........yawn. Then again the shows around here stink.

Why is it when you go to a car show there are a bunch of mustangs, camaros, and short box chevs with 10,000 paint jobs nice valve covers and every thing else is mediocer. Dont get me rong there are a lot of nice cars done right but man it gets old when people gawk and are saying things like "man thats a sweet ride" or "golly he put some money into her" when the car has like 250hp and handles like a shoping cart.

Every person in the car hobby has their own priorities and likes and everyone that brings their car to a show has the right to not be dumped on. To call car shows a "joke" because folks don't have the same likes and priorities as you is an insult to the hobby in general.

The reason you see so many Mustangs, Camaros and short box Chevy's is they were 10 times more popular when they were new and still are.

If you want a show that caters only to what floats your boat go out an organize it and don't refer to the rest of the shows as jokes.

Well I guess the moral of the story is if you hate car shows so much then I guess dont go.

Well said... I go to car shows because I love cars....period.

People build their cars for different reasons. They have different intention on use of the finished project. Some build their cars for performance and some for appearance or cruising. I enjoy seeing all the variety of cars at shows and cruise nights. I may not have the desire to own many of these but I can respect the quality of work that goes into many of these.

I belong to a small car club that puts on a yearly car show, one year we had a couple guys with a late lowered 80's chevy pickup with mirage paint(when it was really high dollar)stock interior, stock engine. They were screaming mad when they didn't win best of show, "we have a $10,000 paint job..."
I go to car shows to meet people. I like the comments I get with my Dart, "We used to have a Dart, couldn't kill it" or "I had a friend that had a 340 Dart, man that was a fast car, he ended up wrapping it around a tree."
The best comment I heard was about a Mustang Convertible parked next to me, parents talking to their kids, "We used to have one just like that, except it wasn't yellow, it wasn't a convertible and it wasn't a '65."
Went to a car show in a park next to a trailer court, parked next to a Chevy Impala convertible, all I heard all day was, "Oooh, a Cheby Impahla".

Hey guys let me make a formal apology. I love car shows and i love cars of all kinds. Im not gunna lie mustangs and camaros, and huge rims get old to me but i did not want to disrespect any one.

I was at a car show in lacey WA and i was checking out a guys mustang it was pretty nice. well the grumpy old guy that owned it looked at me and said "dont gey to close son". mind you im a respectable looking 24 year old guy. well made me mader than hell to know my car may not look as nice but will blow his AWAY. so needless to say i came home and wrote this.

again im sorry

I have met that old guy and several of his friends more than once, i don't like their attitudes either plus they more than likley paid someone to redo their cars then take credit for it [ i hate that ] i'm not knocking the guys that do the work for them [ thank god there are folks that can't do noth'in but brag ] but the shop or guy that did the work deserves the credit. It's my opinion that guys who build their own cars are more proud and deserve more credit than they get. I have built several cars and had all of the folks names and shops names painted on the trunk lid and or my display board. Shows are for car folks to have fun and enjoy each others automobiles and to let others enjoy them. My car is not a show stopper but i love it because it's mine.

I feel you dude, where I live here in Southern Md there are a group of guys who think they are a cool mopar club, All have brand new challengers, chargers and such. I cannot wait to pull up one Sunday with my 65 cuda and show them a true mopar club car! New cars are nice but they did no work to them just some paint or a louver on the window, not a new motor or rebuilt old vehicle, no imagination. I can buy a 40 k challenger srt but no fun in that. I can get a couple cool old mopars for that money if I had it....JMO

Better than the d-bags that go down finance/buy a brand new car(Corvette, Challenger, Mustang, Viper , Camaro etc.) and drive it down to the local car show to put their pocket book on display. At least the above cars you mentioned are articles of American history and the owners actually have made them into nice cars through some hard work rather than taking credit for something that a factory built recently, is overly mass produced and can be seen on an everday basis on the street or down in the local dealership showroom.

And the bank still owns probably half of those guys cars.

OK then, this should make just about everyone happy - but most of you are gonna be in for a drive, so plan ahead.
Our clubs ALL MOPAR show is scheduled for June 13 in Tustin (SoCal) and we even have a class of 'In Progress' Mopar builds, and a class for 'non-Mopar'.
So make the drive and have a great day with Inland Mopars Car Club!

At least those that go buy a Corvette or whatever and show up at the car shows drive theirs. My boss (a Chevy man, and I mean he thinks Chevy is the only thing)buys every new Chevy that comes along, drives it a little then puts it away, the only car show I have heard of him goin to is the Impala convention out in Rapid City, South Dakota. He has a Escalade and pitched a holy fit when the battery on a 6 year old car died with only 3,000 miles on it.
