This is the beginning of a restoration / modification process our family is performing on our 1971 Plymouth Scamp.

We currently use it as a daily driver, it has a slant-6 225 (not for long) and only minor work done by previous owners.

We are also writing a blog about this project and would love it if you followed our progress on it as well as here. We will be keeping everybody updated as things progress!

Nice platform to start with, good luck with your build. Be sure to post plenty of pic's.

Very cool!!! If you get the car done by July 11th, you should bring it up to Langley BC for the Mopar Madness show.

What's the story on the '70 Buick in the background btw?

Ha! I knew someone would ask!

A neighbor owns it. Looks like someone took a trashed car and threw a green w/ white stripe Maaco paint job and some 22" rims on it. It hasn't moved in 8 months and the rust under the paint is bubbling up now. Looks ok from 30' on, but needs a total strip down and rebuild.

We just got the block back from DG Machine. It got hot-dipped, baked and shot blasted. We had it magnafluxed as well to make sure there were no cracks. I posted some pics on the blog as well, but here they are for you guys!

P.S. My son was a BIG help with the painting of the block project.

UPDATE:

So we have moved to the Phoenix area! I am finally starting to thaw out ;) and we are about a month away from starting the teardown of the car. It has been our daily driver the last three months, (no A/C...110º+ temps...wife not too happy, but enduring well...) and now we will finally get to tear into it. Yay!

Here are some update pics from work I did this afternoon. I wanted to get the fenders, grill and doors off, but also had time to do the trunk lid and engine bay wiring harnesses.

Hooked up with a friends heavy-duty engine hoist! I will pick it up tomorrow and hopefully get the engine and tranny out this week! :)

Here are some pics from the late night engine and tranny pull this past Saturday night.

So I found something interesting tonight while I was removing 9 layers of primers and paints. An old repair to the bottom corner of the front windshield...done in lead! Maybe that isn't exciting to you, but it's my first find like this and I just think its cool.

I attached a few pics for you guys if you want to check it out. The lead is the lighter colored portion.

Both my Darts have lead in this same spot (and both are cracking) Chrysler put led on the roof seams too on the cars that didnt get vinyl tops. Another place to find lead is between the rocker and quarter on that seam.

hey i live in north phoenix! welcome to town! if u want to drop that slant off let me know!
