Hot Rod Music!

-
I love that old movie Thunder Road! That was a cool movie.I just bought the dvd of an old hot rod classic about an old willys at the National drags, where he was racing against the MUNNS,Cool old movie! they borrow an engine from a police car,a blower from a mueseum! had to push the old Willys with the Hemi in it a lot because it didn't want to start!

Not one of you has mentioned The Boss! (Springsteen) C'mon, I know his lyrics could be technically incorrect (We all know 396's didn't come with Fuellie heads) "Racing in the streets" but give the guy credit for trying!

....Beyond the Palace, hemi-powered drones scream down the boulevard//Girls comb their hair in rearview mirrors and they boys try to look so hard.......

barracuda, by heart

Also a personal favorite of mine along with Magic Man. Anything by Led Zeppelin works too. I guess it depends on the mood of my particular cruise. For example, if I'm itchin' to tromp on the accelerator for a while, then Guns & Roses, Zeppelin, & most other fast paced rock tunes are great. If I'm kinda just prowlin' around or taking in a cool summer night at a slow pace, then Bob Seger's Turn the Page or Night Moves would be my choice.

But I really do love pulling into the local cruise-in with my husband's 67 Cuda and having "oooo...barracuda" blaring when we come around the courthouse corner!

My Dart needs a theme song...yet to be determined. :headbang:

Speaking of Hot Rod music....

Why is it that EVERY car show / cruise / meeting I attend they ALWAYS play nothing but old 50's & 60's car music? Red Barchetta (by Rush off of the album Moving Pictures...) is probably one of the best composed pieces ever written, yet we must endure Shut Down and 409 at these events endlessly....

Wanna have some fun? Ask a DJ at one of these shows to play Highway Star( Deep Purple) or better yet, Jesus built my Hot Rod ( Ministry... ) and watch the blank look you'll get.

Ahh! Red Barchetta! Great tune! I remember my first exposure to RUSH by my best friends brother back in '78. I was 12 and he had a 70 Chevelle SS 454, black with white stripes and N 50's in the rear (anyone remember letter size tires?)! Not a Dodge but very cool never the less. Took us out for a spin (literally!) and he had 2112 on the 8-track.

Anyway, I was just listening to Copperhead Road by Steve Earl while I was painting the frame of my Ramcharger, and immediately thought of my brother-in-law who was busted running white lightning in Tenesse in late 60's. He had a choice of going to jail or going to Vietnam and he picked the later. Of course as stubborn as he is, he enroled in the Marines.

To make long story short, after he met my sister, he spent a tremendous amount of time with my teenage dumb *** teaching me how to troubleshoot and repair the right way (he was a professional mechanic, now works in the dyno room at Fel-Pro). I will never forget his '68 (maybe '69?) 383 Road Runner (painted all black with Cragar SS's and a four speed, and if I'm not mistaken, he told me he was running 13:1 compression ratio on the street!) that would run 11's easy. Remember, in 1983, a street driven 11 sec. car without nitrous was a rarity.

So, as soon as my Ramcharger is done, (it will be set up as the most ultimate towing, camping, fishing, hi-country bashing SOB as I can make it!) I will be looking for a '70-'71 Duster project, distance no object, this spring. My girlfriend is a tech steward for BMW America SCCA and also has plans fo me to pick up her race car from Kansas, so, if anyone out Kansas way has the aformentioned Duster, Let me know and I'll start saving now!

Thanks everyone for a great website and support our troops! :headbang:

i'll go with goody on this, fast, hard and loud. ac/dc, motorhead, slayer, fu manchu, ramones.

awh yes i remember crusing to boston and bad company as well as many old classic songs in the dart, man i miss those days, i dont think i had ever listined to rush in that car, well i guess the cuda will be :headbang: im listing to long time- boston now haha makes me wanna go crusie

It's funny you mention this, because I DJ car shows for my car club and the likes... I had the 50's-70's playlist and started getting complaints. Redid it to a more modern classic rock playlist and people LOVED it! I have Jesus Built My Hotrod, but haven't played it. Most of my shows are a little more family oriented... I do play Highway Star, AC/DC, Zep, Floyd, and the likes... makes the shows so much more tolerable!

I'm probably cheating too... I use my iPod, hit shuffle, and let 'er rip! :headbang:
