what are the best upgrades to make in order to make a slant six a powerhouse without forced induction. i'm thinking cams, and heads. but what do you guys think?

You'll hear the name "Clifford" come up, but be very careful before you decide to spend any money with Clifford. They have a long and ugly reputation for being a bunch of clowns; see for example here, here, here, here, and here. Much of what they sell is inaccurately described, and a lot of it is not even slightly cost-effective. The good news is that you don't need to go to Clifford to get hot rod parts for slant-6s; there are lots of other, better options. See for example Dutra Duals and header options discussed in this thread and this one, Erson custom cams, HEI ignition upgrade, Mike Jeffreys windage trays, Hurricane intakes, other exotic intakes. Hi-perf engine buildup here, high-perf parts and build info here.

I will agree that Clifford's prices are a little high, but I've been running their split headers, 4-BBL intake, shot peened rods, and double roller timing chain with great success (on and off the track) for 6 years....Over 900+ passes with most of that equipment. Having said that, upgrading to a super six, or a 4-barrel setup and adding some headers will help immensely...Just need to help the slant breathe a little. Then you can start thinking about doing what the other poster has mentioned. A turbocharger setup is next on the list for my slant!

oh a 4 barrel? i was thinking 2, but i'll look into some 4 barrels

Depends on how far you want to go...A 2-barrel super six is an easy and very worthwhile switch. I have a 390 cfm holley 4-barrel on mine and love it, but then again I bracket race my Dart a lot and the engine has had plenty of work done to it. A super six 2 barrel should be easy to acquire and would be sufficient for most slants

i wanna build my own intake manifold, put injector ports on it and run megasquirt. then probably twin turbo a /6 lol. i havent seen many people make them fulie but it would be really cool and imho the best way to go for forced induction

a set of 3:55 gears will wake the car up. im starting with basic bolt ons on my slant as money will allow. i got a super six setup, next i want to try the dutra duals, clutch fan, windage tray. if you still have points, then you should switch to electronic. im basically trying to free up power before i try to make more such as machine work, cam ,etc.

I think Richard at http://www.fastmanefi.com/ has done some EFI stuff for the slant. I know I have seen a few magazine articles about some EFI slants....

Around town, sure, but it'll be a damnuisance on the highway…the engine will be screaming (and guzzling fuel).

70-Challenger, it'll go best if you will figure out and write down exactly what you want your car to do that it doesn't presently do. Not in terms of which parts are under the hood, but in terms of performance, driveability, economy, steering, stopping, etc. Then post your goals here and/or on the slant-6 board and you'll get good quality advice steering you towards the most effective and cost-effective mods to make, and in what order.

i'm just looking for all out performance. i want to take it to the strip and race it, and of course i want to smash my friend's cars 8): hahaha

i want to reach double the stock HP and torque, if i can triple it, that would be even better! i'm not worried about anything else...yet lol

What is the record for a N/A slant in the 1/4? I would think with out forced induction it will be hard to run much quicker than 14's and still have it be streetable.

this is what i want to disprove! maybe its true idk but i am running a .080 over 225 with a .510 cam and i drive it daily np! so im looking to lighten her up and put a 3.91 out back... for starters...

my 3:55's arnt too bad on the highway. 65 is about 2500 rpm. but im also running 28" tall cheater slicks. im sure when i run my 26" tall tires, it will rev a little higher. maybe i will have to drive 55. but for terrorizing the town, the 3:55's are great!

.

I ran 3:91's with a 26" tall tire for a long time with my 340. Now with 28's my big block is pretty happy.

3.55's and a 26" tire is about 2900 RPM at 62 MPH. What's the big deal with that?

what kinda rear are you running?

Is this car going to bee streetable?Weight removeal is your easiest way to make it quicker. My race car that has the NA record at 2350lbs has run 11.50 at 115mph.All motor on gas.Guzzi Mark
