my 68 valiant has a 225 /6 with factory exhaust,i am going to be putting on all new pipe and was wondering if i could run it straight thru with no muffler..and if i need a muffler, what would be a good one to make just a little noise..thank you in advance for your input....:read2:

No you don't NEED a muffler. I have ran a single strait pipe on a 225, but it does get old really fast, sounds nasty, not in a good way. I ended up going to a local muffler shop and asked the guy to throw on any used turbo muff. The car had a slight tone, and the job costed like 20 bucks.

Not only will the driver get tired of it, but every onlooker is going to think it's just another old jalopy with a busted exhaust. That's what I would think. I'd still give a thumbs up, though.

Slant 6 sounds annoying without muffler.
I would go with any straight flow muffler.
Is Simons mufflers available in states?
I've had some good results with simons. Nice and low tone, but loud enough to wake up neighbors when flooring pedal.
Made even my first car, 1,3 litre Corolla ke30 sound like a 2,0. :-D

i had no muffler and a side exit pipe on my 65 plmouth with a slant and it sounded horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and besides that ur power output drops and same with the mpg...

i have noticed that these 6's need backpressure. even my built slant i have now likes a muffler

My brother cut the muffler off of his 75 Duster and strange as it may sound left the cat on it. LOL I did not like the way it sounded at all.
