I'd like to add 2 or 3 more gauges in my 68 Cuda but there is hardly any room under the dash and besides you can't see them while driving so I was thinking why not put them on the A pillar? So I looked all over Summit and Jegs and see they have pillar pods for all sorts of trucks and rice crap but of course nothing for an A-body, or any older car for that matter. Anybody ever try this and figure out some pods that might work? Would be nice to just screw something down and go but I'd even do some fabricating if I only knew where to start. Anybody done this or have any ideas?

BTW: 2-1/16" gauges is the size I'm thinking about using.

I think those chrome single pods look nice. I don't see why 2 or 3 of them wouldn't mount up on the A-pillar

Just pick up some autometer gauges and some chrome cups for them. Tell your local speed shop what you want, they can get it. Here are mine:

Thanks for the pics. I wish I had a local speed shop but the closest one is 40 miles away. Those do look nice. Was just hoping to see if anybody made one of the 2 or 3 pod setups work on an A-body.

Maybe a good local auto sound shop could fab something up? I've seen them do some pretty wild things with fiberglass.

i dont think it would look right in a classic. i have a tripple gauge pod in my jap import. but it fits that car. i think it will make your car look too importy, if thats a word haha. if you really want one. you could make a nice looking one out of fiberglass. that sounds like it could be a fun little project.

A while back I read where a guy used a pillar pod
from a S10 truck.
There were pictures but it's been several years ago.
If you search hard enuff, you might find it.

I guess it's a matter of your perspective and how it's done. I've seen a couple in old Mopars and they looked good, when done right. I just have no place to put more gauges at all where they can be easily seen. That's the only place I can see to put them so it's really more necessity.

At the moment, it's too bad Just Dashes is only catering to the B-body crowd for the in-dash pods. Pricey, but I think it looks sharp and would look even better in an A-body.

Yeah they do look good. But I just restored the dash to original last year which cost quite a bit so I'm not up to spending that much again. Wish I could have gotten a custom dash like that but I couldn't find anything so I just kept it stock.

The more I look at these the more I like them. I think I might just go with these. Summit has them cheap. Thanks again for the pics.

BTW: What size gauges are those?

I understand about spending the money once and not wanting to do again. But for those of us who are looking at this same thing in the future, it would be nice if some of this stuff was available.

Those pods on the a pillar look nice.

I have a 73 dart, and my ash tray was so bad that I removed it cut the opening slightly bigger and made a custom gauge pod, and used the angle rings to aim them toward me. Looks great, and I don;t have to look down as far to see them.

can you take your original style a piller cover and mark where you want them and what angel then cut holes. and put pvc pipe in the holes and epoxy them in place then fiberglass it all to make it smooth? maby if i have some time i will see what i can do with mine. it would be sweet to have them available. they would look good on a resto mod maby not in a vintage style car like slantscamps wagon.

Humm... That's an idea. I think a buddy of mine has some extra a-pillar trim. May see if I can get a piece from him and give it a go and see how it turns out. Maybe wrap it in carbon fiber when I'm done.

Looks good Whitey. I wish I had the room under my dash for gauges but when I restored the dash to stock I installed an original thumb wheel radio and made a case to mount the custom stereo under the dash. That pretty much wiped out any room I had.
