the fuel pump in my 73 valiant 318 has quit on me for the second time. i put a new one on from advance less than a year ago it quit 2 months ago. got another one under warranty and it quit last night in the middle of a cruise in. should i be getting a different pump maybe going to electric? also if my tank has trash in it could that be causing this? maybe need to add a filter before the pump. it has a stock 2bbl carb and mild cam. thanks:wack:thats what i said "lol"

I like Electric, but you paid for that one so I would make them give me a new one, Your not pumping dirt or something out of your tank are you? I run 2 fuel filters before pump and one after, I know over kill.

when i bought the car it had been sittin and was getting a little trash in the carb. i put a bigger filter on it (after the pump) and havent had any problems since. just seems strange to have a pump quit so soon thought maybe debris would ruin a pump. also the ignition module went out with the first pump and both were replaced at the same time. thanks

Drop the tank and clean out the gunk. It will ruin the pump. I never let any of my cars go under 1/4 tank. That way I avoid picking up any dirt that may be in the tank. Dirt will ruin your electric pump too. It will make it work harder and eventually burn it out.

the gas guage doesnt work so i fill it up after about 150 miles and usualy takes around 9 gallons. i also filled it up about 40 miles before this happened.

have never used any additives. maybe just a run of bad pumps i hope. is there a better pump than the $18.99 from advance?

I always run a filter before my fuel pumps.
My carter on my 318 is 16 years old and still going.

thanks all. checked with advance it is still warrantied so ill have a new one in the am and will be installing a filter before and after the pump. it this one goes out ill go with a better qaulity.
