Hey All, Finally got my donor 904 apart. And it may or may not be good news. The snout of the converter is kinda rough, can feel with finger nail. What could cause that? Also, I found some metal shavings in the pan. What got me scratching my heaad is that some of it was copper in color. What is made of copper in a 904? The trans runs great (no slipping or noises) Shifts real Hard with the Cheetah Turbo Action Reverse Manual Body.....Check the pics, Would you just clean it n just put it back in ???

The bushing that the converter hub rides in is a bronze bushing, it is inside the front pump. Plus there are plenty of bronze bushings in the trans.

I'd get a new converter, that's pretty nasty looking. If it's a custom converter (Dynamic, B&M, Coan, etc) I would send it to the manufacturer and have a new snout put on it.

Hey Thanks 340Mopar... I didnt know they COULD put a new hub on it. Maybe that will be cheaper. I'll check that out after ID'ing the converter. I know it's 11'', theres no brand name on it but i know it's a hi stall (4200???) converter Only Markings on it were as follows: AF904, R59308, R70824, 55438, 17828 which were stamped on the rearward side of it. I've searched on it with no luck....

also have a look thru the whole transmission clean it out real good and have a good look on every part to make sure its not damaged, its alot cheaper and easier to change some worn/damaged parts know than it is after puting the transmission in and driving some more and maybe do some more damage, dont worry its not realy difficult if you just take your time and keep all parts organized and a workshop book also helps
dont forget to flush out any metal that may be trapped inside the transmissioncooler and the transmissioncooler lines, many people forget that..
just my thoughts

Yeah 340 is right. The copper colored stuff you see is from a brass bushing or thrust washer but I bet from the look of that converter it's from the front pump bushing. It's probably as trashed as that converter hub. Since there was metal ran through it you'd be best off having the converter gone completely through, not just replacing the snout. Only thing is it may cost just as much as replacing it. It's worth checking into though.
