I just bought this car earlier this week and was wondering if someone could help me decode the fender tag. I was able to get the VIN decoded, but for some reason all the fender tag decoders I found stop at 1974.

Here are the codes:

26 END
J52 L31 M21 M38 N65 Y16
V1A U A81 B41 G52 H51
LA2 E2B6 000 A21 806303
E44 D32 VH23 G6F ######

I appreciate any help that I can get.

Thanks,
Kenny

Most of the codes will be the same. Check stockmopar.com and use the vin and fender tax decoder there.

I never did decode the fender tags, did you find the build sheet on the car? That might give you some good info.. On most of the older mopars the build sheet was under the back seat...

If you can't decode your fender tag, I'll help you make up some of the code translations...

Funny...REAL funny ;)

So, using the Stockmopar.com decoder for up to 1974 models, I get this:

A few unknowns on there, guess it's not a huge deal. How do I know if I have a A-727 or a A-998?

Hey, I was pretty close decodein it 8)

Easiest way would probably be to look at your tranny pan, should be all kinds of pan picture charts on the net..

it is going to be a 904 if it is a 318. if i get time later on tonight or sometime tomorrow i will try to decode it for you......

Ok, I guess pasting that table in was a bad idea. Here's what the decode on stockmopar.com says...so you can actually read it this time :)

E44 = 318 2 barrel
D32 = H-D A-727 TorqueFlite Trans / Some Years A-998
VH23 = V - Valiant/Duster; H - Scamp; 23 - 2-door Coupe
G6F = G - 318ci/150hp; 6 - 1976; F - Newark, DE Assembly Plant
LA2 = Paint Code (Unknown)
E2B6 = ?
000 = Upper Door Frame: Full Door Panel
A21 = ?
806303 = Order Number: 806303
V1A = Roof Type OR Color: Full Vinyl Top - Gunmetal
U = Built to Specifications for USA Order
A81 = Unknown At This Time
B41 = Front Disc Brakes Some Yrs. Power
G52 = Unknown At This Time
H51 = Single Air /w Heater
J52 = Inside Hood Release
L31 = Hood / Fender Mount Turn Signal
M21 = Roof Drip Rail Moldings
M38 = Deck Lid Finish Panel Moldings 70-1
N65 = Torque Drive Fan
Y16 = Sales Bank Car
26 = 26 in. Radiator

So you are saying I have neither a 727 nor a 998?

ok on further inspection here is what i was able to look up. i only wrote in the ones you had no information for or the ones that were wrong. i hope this helps and jives with the car in question.

D32 = Automatic-998

LA2 = silver cloud metallic

E2B6 = med. blue vinyl bench

A21 = built on tues oct 21 1975

A81 = simulated convertible roof two tone (seems odd to me but it is what it says)

B41 = Front Disc Brakes Power

G52 = remote left hand chrome outside mirror

H51 = Air cond. /w Heater

Thanks for your help with all of that. As for the roof, that is weird. It is definitely a full vinyl top, but it isn't two-tone.

As for the A-998 transmission, I've never really heard of them. Does anyone know if it is strong enough to hold up to some mild upgrades like a cam, headers, and a 4 barrel carb?
