I think your theory would work on a normal pressure oil well.. I think that thay hit a pocket of oil with so much pressure that nothing or no one can stop it, russia explored the super deep drilling and hit high pressure wells "on land" and it blew everything all to hell, thay just swept the facts under the rug, said lesson learned and their still super deep drilling..
