245 60 14 on 69 Dart

-
Thanks for the compliments. Looking forward to being able to take off without spinning the tires.

I am in the process of doing that right now. I am installing the offset spring kit and getting steel rims made by stockton that are 15 x 8 with a 5" backspace with 275 60 15 ET street radials. I will have to roll the wheel lip. Hope everything works out.

If you don't mind. I would love it if you could keep me up to date on how they fit. With pics. Lots of pics. LOL That is just what I was going to do but with some Weld drag lights. Good luck. Hope it works out for you.

I will let you guys know how it goes. Hopefully the wheels do not take very long to get.

Stockton was reasonably fast with my order and I'm very happy with the wheels.

Ok how about teaching me how to roll the lip.Is that better,in the past I have trimed a little off the Quarter just enough to clear the tire.Maybe I am missing something.

Hey Snake,I,ve got 255/60/15,s on my 66 Dart no problem!Pics.

Called stockton today. They told me it will take 2 1/2 months to get the rims. I will let you guys when I get the rims and keep you posted. Here is another pic of my car. I know how everyone likes pics of a abodies as I do.

I just talked to the wheel fabricator from Stockton Wheel while at Spring Fling. He says if you are waiting for a set of custom 15" SBP steel wheels there will be a substantial wait. He can't build the wheels unless he has cores to reuse. He currently has none but is always on the lookout for them. If you are waiting on an order for Stockton Wheel to build you a set of 15" SBP steel wheels, and you have a set of 14" SBP wheels laying around call them and send them your wheels. He says your order will be done in two weeks.

Thanks for the info. I guess I will wait it out. I do have rims but shipping will be too costly from Ontario Canada. I am already paying over $500.00 CDN for two steel rims.

what about wheel vinteques? yeah you can fit a 275 on a dart. i have 255 60 15s on my 69 and i think there is plenty of room. i had 255 70 15s, they were a little too tall for my liking but htey fit. on a 7" rim they weere 29x10. on the 67 i had i put the offset hangers with 28x11.50 dot slicks. now those tires are measured differently than drag slicks.

I will have to wait it out. They have already taken the funds from my visa card.

I have 255-65-15 on a 15x8 4.5 backspacing. Rubs a little on the outside had to roll the lip on the fender to barely clear. But I had almost an inch between the tire and the spring, with the spring in the stock location. Definitely go with a 5" backspacing

Hi Guys
I thought I would give an update. Sorry it took so long. I was at a car show in the spring and I was hit buy a guy with a trailer turning too sharp around a turn. It caused alot of damage. I just got the car back about a month ago. At any rate here are the pictures of the stockton rims with a 5" back space with the offset spring kit and M/T ET streets 275 60 15.

wow that turned out nice, sorry to here about your hit.Your work on fiting your tires is great.Thankssss for the update.I am sure the outhers will thank you.8) I went with 245 60 14 rear and 215 70 14 front good fit with no tiore rub:cheers:

They are very close. I have had no rubbing of any kind. There is no way anything bigger will fit. All your measurements have to be correct and the rear end must be perfectly centered.

Stevedart it will work out fine. I did the same thing your doing with stockton rally wheels in the back. 27" X 10.5" on 15's fit fine. I've got about an inch on each side and went with a 5.5 back set but think 5 would have been better.

Man, that's around the same size as a 255/60/15 drag radial. That's the tire I was hoping to get under my '71 Dart without moving anything.

Not to hi-jack this thread, but I'd really love to hear definitively that someone is running 255/60/15's on a stock spring location Dart with no issues. If all it takes is the right backspacing wheel, I'm calling Stockton tomorrow.

BTW, I was able to put 245/60/15's on a '65 Valiant. I had 15x8 wheels with a 4.875" backspace and Espo springs arched 2" over stock with no problems.

Why not 5.5? I ask because I haven't done the work yet but the wheels I picked up are 28x10.5 15 with 5.5 BS, so I'm all ears.

I have 245/14s on my 65 on a 7 inch wheel with room left over.I am pretty sure the 67-69 Darts have more space. Ive seen 255/60/14s but you can't get them any more.

I also have a 1969 swinger and went with 14x7 on rears with 245-60-14..... After i tried 14x8 wheels with 245-60-14.... The 14x8 wheels fit with out rolling lip ... BUT right side outer tire SLIGHTLY rubbed lip... I am sure if i finessed diff slightly towards driver side i could of corrected this... THe only reason i decided to go back to 14x7 wheels .. is because that 14x8 rim and a dog dish just does not look right ...

Steverdart is that a 4 speed or auto ?

I am hoping to get 235 /60/14 's under my 70 Dart on stock sbp rallyes without rubbing or any modifications.

Member "MadDart" has a 255/60/14 under his Dart on Rallies , I wanted those tires but no longer available (MT Indy profiles)

With that much clearance you have a 4" offset. I have a 4-1/2 offset and have about 1/4 inch space to the leaf spring. I wonder if you could fit 255s in there?

who makes 255 /14 s ? I have the 245 60 14s on my barracuda all around but if you know where I can get 255 60 14s for the back I`m in

Wow everybody is posting at once
.
