I'd say the car was actually running off of the alternator, not the battery. Bet you have a bad battery with a couple of plates together.. I don't care what the smart charger read out said. Start with a fresh battery or a booster pack..

Yep, bottom out OR it can work it's way too short again and the shaft pulls the rubber seal off the coupling. As for the "JB" the Plastic Mender would be just fine, or Permatex Plastic Bonder.

You looked at my link no? First picture shows the plastic "H" slider apart. Two pieces and a metal pin. GENTLY wiggle them back and forth (turning) to loosen up and you should be able to pull them apart.

Use what you've got in the tool box...

1/2" or 7/16" ? I think I'm reading 1/2" RH in the last picture..

Unless you're drawing combustion air in DIRECTLY (via a sealed venter) from outside, you're asking for a BIG bang and fortunate so far that you're only getting a slight "warning" at this point. Same reason the old rule was an ignition source had to be 24" off the floor in a shop.

Some days you get lucky and find the sender lock ring just needs a little persuasion in the tightening direction to stop the weep.
