Morning!
-31° this morning. Just plugged in the block heater. This is a test. If batteries are low this morning im thinking i need an alternator. Extreme low temp causes a draw in the alternator. Can easily check it with my flir camera.
If truck is plugged in all night, the heat from the...
Go into shed searching for that perfect piece to hold a/c condensor. Yup! Found one! Then go back and look for flat stock 4” wide. Yup, got that too! Awsome im not spending extra time bending steel for brackets. Or making real long cuts. Rad support is almost done! A/C condenser fits nice.
Got my rad support figured out, even have room for a fan maybe. Probably a direct driven one. dont know if there is room for the clutch. Or electric. Lots of room for that.
Got a text message yesterday. “Got your money”
I replied wrong number.
Got another text showing $520 sent to me. Nope not biting. So i didnt open my banking info, then replied hey, thanks! Then blocked the sender. So he didnt get my banking info, and thinks i opened my account for him. Not...
What an awesome day!
Avalanche dead. Grab battery from shop and plunk it in. If you have never handled bolts that are frozen to -35°celcius let me describe it. It feels like picking up a red hot bolt,at least that first milisecond before you realize its too hot and drop it. Fingers get numb...
Yup, neither vehicle is plugged in. So i did the right thing and went out in my jammies and got em plugged in. Extension cords are not bendable in this weather. Could play billiards with them.
Morning!
Yup, still in the -30’s. I hate it. Change of plans, have to go to wpg to get kid’s car running. Dumbass didnt plug it in and then tried starting it. Ran battery down and now its likely frozen. So buy a new one and go install it. Roadside (caa) only offers 4 free service calls and then...
Made a giant mess of the rad supports. One wrong cut followed by all the other wrong cuts. Basically made a pile of scrap and trashing 3 expensive cutoff wheels. 2 people show up and 2 hours gone. And due to the distraction im going to have to weld stuff together and start over.
Morning!
-30 again this morning. Going to be a rough week temp wise. Oh well. Next sat will be back around 0° or 32° for you southern folk.
So ya, Studebaker is staying in all week hoping to drive it out by friday.
Check polarity. Fan running and blowing across your work? Whats gas set at? Porous welds can form due to various reasons. Dirty metal, incorrect gas flow rate.
Rear cab mount aligned and centered, welded in. What a difference switching to .030 wire from .023. Welds much better on the heavy stuff. Now moved my attention to front mount/rad support. Original was one in the centre, now one at each frame rail.
Decided to keep Studebaker in shop for a week, so cold i dont want to be fighting with filler and having problems. And soon will be priming. That means no fire in the pellet stove. I did find a source for replacement panels for studebaker. I need patch panels for the front fenders.
I have seen electrolysis do some pretty incredible things, but being a trunk lid, the anode or steel rod would somehow need to be placed inside the trunk lid to be effective i think. Like cleaning a pipe, it would take the path of least resistance.
The places that do acid dipping are few and...
3:00 and couldnt get back to sleep. Studebaker on the brain. May spend the week working on it, so maybe it will run/drive again. Easier to get in shop as required.
Long day. Diagnosed and repaired the malibu diagnosed and repaired a silverado running rich and misfiring. Had to change battery in plow truck and plow snow. That sucked. Brought in a weeks worth of pellets. And shoved Studebaker into shop.
