    Looking for A904 automatic Transmission

The 904s have a weak sprag arrangement that is nearly impossible to replace for most shops. I had that problem with my Son's Demon last month BUT it is a 10 Second race car. They tend to break when you spin the tire hard and then it suddenly hooks. A lot of times it takes a lot of other parts...

    65 Valiant 904 no reverse.

Check you reverse band adjustment. Check that linkage is fully into R position. Often when it struggles to go into reverse but does not it is a front pump pressure problem as it requires more line pressure to go into Reverse than forward gears.

3.23 Open 8.75 diff needs to go

I agree. The pinion stem diameter is not a weak spot! However, Gear Ratios are much more limited, But if you can find the gear you want the 741 is much cheaper.

More than 1/2 the time I try to buy a part they are on backorder. Last month I tried to order gears from Summit and Jegs. They said they were available in a short time and both time they refunded my Credit Card the next day and said not available at this time. They said they would inform me...

Change a 904 to manual valve body

You might have a stuck Valve or restriction in you Factory Valve body = They are tempermental. Drain the fluid as strain it for material = The material or lack of it will usually tell if you have a major breakdown or not! Then inspect the filter and pan for material

Change a 904 to manual valve body

All of my 5 Street/Strip cars have a manual valve body. If you have seen my cars = you would know I am not lazy but I prize the control of shifting my car myself. It is also pretty vital if you race it.

    Race 727 band adjustments

Yes = Same Specs. The Turbo Action is a great Valvebody The Band and Clutch Plates do not overlap much on the shift and clutch plates last much longer. The transbrake is hard on the thrust bearing in the engine particularly if you sit on it a long time. I suggest that ever time you service the...

    Race 727 band adjustments

Often impossible to get to front band adjustment with torque wrench with Headers while in the race car. Just get the front band finger tight (fairly snug) then back it off 1 1/2 turns (assume you have 5.0 lever). Back band is not real critical 2 to 2 1/2 is fine.. Check it every 30 or 40 passes...

    Question for 904 gurus

Ours have no tension at idle. You may have to modify linkage. This affects part throttle shifts by position of kickdown linkage Full throttle shifts are regulated by Govenor Weights in the transmission as full throttle should be wide open on kickdown linkage as well if adjusted right.

    Shifter for clean neutral

Normal manual valve body's have some drag when put in neutral and there is always a chance of hitting low or reverse thru the lights when shifted to neutral which many racers do.

    Shifter for clean neutral

We run Turbo Action But I see no reason you could not modify the gate yourself if needed on B and M. We love the Pro Trans Clean neutral Trans. The Smith family is the absolute best in the Trans Business and I have done business with them 30 to 40 years!!

It sounds to me like a front pump issue = Possible pressure loss but the shifting is probably linkage adjustment and unrelated.

    8 3/4" swap info

The gentleman did not state what A body Wheelbase he had or what transmission. I did not assume that in his picture was his car he was currently working on! I measured my Demon just to give him a starting point of reference as I stated. The 108 Wheelbase is the most common of any of the A...

No accumalator spring.. do or dont

Back in the 60's the first thing I did was to remove the spring and turn up the line pressure about 5 turns. I drove the one 67 GTX about 100,000 miles in two years and never seem to hurt anything.

    8" vs. 9" convertor

Most 7.0/11.0 if they are sorted out and prepared right = go in 1.4s somewhere. A 124 MPH well prepare car should go 10.5ish and 1.3 to 1.4 @ 60 5200 RPM in Traps = I would be looking for another tack unless you were at 1/8 mile. Our little Red 68 Valiant small block street car that won the...
