    overheat only over 3000 rpm

For me, it was an old funeral car, early 50s Cadillac Hearse. It ran fine during the procession out to the Burial Park, the other cars could return on the hiway, but this one overheated at speed. When brought to us, we rifled thru the glove box, found the newish looking rad was just a coupla...

The interesting thing about the lower hose sucking shut, - is that as soon as you let the rpms drops from the revs nec to suck it closed, it will immediately open , and stay open till next time revved, then shut. Cruise at 60 mph, it gets hot, pull over, idle, open hood, inspect for problem...

Does This Debunk the "Coolant Can Flow Through the Radiator Too Fast" Idea???

Yeah, I mentioned that in an earlier post, "vacuum" was part of the quote. Cheers

Does This Debunk the "Coolant Can Flow Through the Radiator Too Fast" Idea???

I tried to avoid the use of the word "vacuum", but I maintain low pressure area created by "centrifugal" force, and the terms "single suction, dual suction pumps" seems to support what I was taught, well before the interweb, lol

    tips on asphalt driveaway replacement?

I have acreage, my driveways aren't show pieces, but worked for me, going on 20 yrs now, but it does need a "side trim". I used the "kibble" grindings they grind up from old asphalt. They screen it., very reasonable, trick is compact the **** outta it, when you think it's compacted, do it again...

Does This Debunk the "Coolant Can Flow Through the Radiator Too Fast" Idea???

"Centrifugal pumps work on the simple principle of imparting kinetic energy to the liquid. The pump consists of an impeller that is generally situated on a rotating shaft and turns inside of the pump casing[^1^]. When the impeller rotates, it creates a vacuum, sucking the fluid into the pump...

    340 Overheat / Radiator Geyser

There was an extreme sense of success and satisfaction I have seldom achieved anytime else, in smashing out the windows as the squatters could only watch, mouths hung open. It was worth every penny for new modern windows .

WHO'S GOT THE SCOOP ON RESIDUAL VALVES?

If you dropped your car off at my shop with the stuff in the trunk, I'd pull a w/cyl apart checking for "correct " spring expander, check size, install. If the w/cyls are expander style then a redundant valve in m/c is of no consequence. If old style regular poor fitting spring in w/cyls, it...

Does This Debunk the "Coolant Can Flow Through the Radiator Too Fast" Idea???

Water pump uses centrifugal force to create a low pressure area. This is not a positive displacement pump, vanes/flukes are not sealed to the case/housing. No "pressure" as such, is created, only circulation. The lower rad hose, the return heater-hose, and by- pass hose all channel coolant...

WHO'S GOT THE SCOOP ON RESIDUAL VALVES?

If it were mine, I'd leave the m/c alone,(warranty) install the w/cs with the expanders. The previous post forgets the return springs returns the shoes to the "anchor", and cannot compress, or put any pressure on the hydraulics, so no delay if adjusted properly, expanders keep cup in contact...

For flat-rate, we'd tap whichever tab (L or R) with a hammer to allow the cyl piston to come outta the bore, check, hone, replace cups/pistons/dust boot, then pry the tab back up to retain pistons.

    Brake pedal won't return

There is a special "shoulder" bolt that goes thru the pedal and pushrod. Often the wrong bolt, or a washer was added, or just gunk gets on that bolt, and it binds on the return. Try loosening the nut/bolt thru the pedal. If that eases the problem, find out why it's bindin and repair it. Don't...

My $0.02. I think you will find there is a small pocket behind the top left bolt with hole. The residual oil in the valley will be right up to the hole in the bolt, any additional oil will cause oil to flow out the hole in the 2 top bolts. Those 2 top bolts are what? 3/8 of an inch below those 2...

WHO'S GOT THE SCOOP ON RESIDUAL VALVES?

The residual pressure valve was designed to hold enuff pressure to keep the wheel cyl cup "lips" in contact with the cyl wall, to prevent fluid loss while not in use, - was what I was taught, and was in my Red Seal Manual. Look it up . Newer design wheel cyls came out with the spring, originally...

WHO'S GOT THE SCOOP ON RESIDUAL VALVES?

The spring in the wheel cylinder between the cups makes the residual valve in the Master cyl, redundant, not nec. So, if the wheel cyls have a spring, you don't need the residual valve in the m/c.
