    Closed chambers gone bad… that’s a wrap

You guys are missing the easiest way. Fire up the grinder with some 36 grit and lop the top right off those suckers.

    Closed chambers gone bad… that’s a wrap

If you have the money do it right then do it and don't look back. It is already too late to enjoy it this summer for the most part if you have someone doing a custom build.

    Closed chambers gone bad… that’s a wrap

Others have run two head gaskets stacked together to get the needed thickness. Different thickness gaskets can be used on each side. If you use either method you will have to double check your pushrod length. None of this is ideal but short of tearing down your short block it may be your...

    LA360 compression

One thing that I don't think has been mentioned is the rods. If a story was told about the pistons, then I would want to check if new rod bolts were used and rods rebuilt. This is likely why builder mentioned stroker- buy the rods and pistons and you are most of the way to the cost of a cast...

    LA360 compression

It is up to you if you want to go all out on this build. Don't be pushed into something you don't want or you can't afford. Don't know what piston you are running, but if KB's as indicated and they

Magnum heads convert to sbc rockers?

Comp cams has a new asymmetrical line of roller profiles that claim to have a slower ramp profile on the closing side for better rpm ability. You can get a similar deal from Mike Jones cams. I would use the latter.

    Closed chambers gone bad… that’s a wrap

My two cents- take it apart and go over everything with a fine tooth comb before spending any money. Pistons do not appear to be hurt. Some race engines have been purposely designed to barely kiss the head chamber similar to what you think yours is doing. Rod bearings, ring lands, and piston...

    SCT versus random orbital sander?

DA only for finish work. The Eastwood strip tool is more for stripping heavy paint, rust, or old bondo from the metal.

    Scream'n 318 ?

I mentioned it would be nice is some reasonable priced higher compression pistons could be had for a 318. Stock cast stuff is available for $125 a set. Seems reasonable that a set with only the pin height being changed could be had for $250. Sorry if this triggered you somehow. I am talking...

    Scream'n 318 ?

There is more than one type of build. Lots seem consumed with best of everything balls to the wall build as the only option. That isn't the only way. As far as money well spent, I am not sure that includes KB cast pistons for 3 or more times the price of a stock type replacement piston if...

    Vibration at 2200 RPM

I agree. Could be as simple as a torque converter bolt backed out, or a cracked flex plate.

    Oh dear God! 318 stroker

I get the idea of wanting to experiment with different combos. I don't get the idea of going around my arsehole to get to my elbow though with so many 360/5.9 cores available.

    Scream'n 318 ?

If somebody would come out with a 1.8 compression height cast piston for $250 or so for the 318's we would see a lot more of them built. KB's are almost 500 bucks now unfortunately.

    Scream'n 318 ?

Just kidding around. Have you decided on parameters for parts and budget? Knowing our "kind" i bet you have some stuff squirreled away to use.

Somebody chose to bolt it to the engine stand right? :)

    Cheaper than dirt 318 build

If cheaper than dirt is the primary objective a good used 5.2 magnum with a China gap intake would be hard to beat. 5.9 wouldn't be much more if any.

Front "China wall" sealing issue on SBM

Stuff is great until it needs to be disassembled. Had to take a stiff sharp putty knife and a hammer to get the oil pan and timing cover off of a blueprint stroker motor I tore down. It was the first time I had come across it and thought it might have been windshield urethane until I checked...

    Scream'n 318 ?

I like the idea. It is funny how so many poo poo the 318 while worshiping at the alter of the 340. 11 to1 318 turning to 6500 would be a fun little engine.

Front "China wall" sealing issue on SBM

If you think that cork was hard to remove, wait until you get ahold of an engine assembled with the right stuff, honda bond, or similar gasket maker. Damn near need an air chisel to the the stuff back apart.

    Zero Turn Mower. I'm stumped.

I can tell you from experience I have not had any issues with my small engines in years after buying carbs every year it seems prior to buying the no ethanol gas. Problem is that if the same hose/pump is used for both ethanol and ethanol free, then there can be come ethanol gas that gets in...

    Zero Turn Mower. I'm stumped.

Rusty several QT stations around me in Atlanta have started selling no ethanol 87 octane. I have been using ethanol free gas in all my small equipment for years and have had very few problems as a result.

    stroker engine balancing

I figured someone with the skills to bore a block on a drill press would have a work around.

    stroker engine balancing

You don't have a grinder around to do the balance job yourself? Might come in handy to turn the mains down on your 360 crank as well.
  28. M

Turn a small drill press into a Bore/ Hone. Bolt it to the top of your engine block & do your own machining .

If you are dead set on doing this yourself, dont piece together a bunch of stuff and hope it will work. Just buy yourself a used boring bar and be done with it.
