    Cleaning Out Bearing Debris

They're all done. I'm glad I cleaned them. The picture (sorry, it's poor), shows material on the tip of the magnet that I ran through the fresh gas that I cleaned them in. I replaced the gas every 4 lifters. Air hosed them. (Ignore the white spot, I believe that's a reflection from the...

    Cleaning Out Bearing Debris

I'm cleaning the inside of my 360 thoroughly, because a rod bearing spun and put metal through the engine. I did this once before about 30 years ago because of a wiped cam. (I've also done it to freshly machined blocks, crank, rods, etc.) I can't remember what we did about the (hydraulic, in...

    Help Identifying Torque Converter

No transman, every little bit helps. You nailed the reason I'd like to know who built it- to see if I can find out its history. The only markings on it are in the pic below. Lol, I thought I did post pics. Should be below. For the reason I mentioned to transman above.

    Help Identifying Torque Converter

I'm tearing down my 360 to address a spun bearing problem, and I thought I'd try to figure out what converter I have. (I bought the whole drivetrain used, so it's been a detective game.) The only markings are these numbers on the crank hub: C300 2601. It has 3/8" bolt holes. It measures 9...

    Spun 360 Rod Bearing

I'll be checking everything, just like a new build. Heck, it's out and on the stand. Plus, what else does this retired guy have to do all winter?

Thinking about that, it could've been remnants of the assembly lube.

    Spun 360 Rod Bearing

We’ll check into that possibility. I would think if 7 were bent, the bearing wear would be abnormal. It’s ok. Twisted, maybe? I would still expect some abnormal wear on the rod(s) and/or bearing(s). It’s still something to look into. Edit: Also, Abby Normal piston skirt wear, as I was reading...

    Spun 360 Rod Bearing

I used Plastigage. I can see it not being as accurate as a mic and a bore gage. I used the latter on the cylinders and pistons. I'll have to see if I can cover 2-3 with it. (Excuse the italics, I have no idea what button I hit.) Thanks for the heads up on bearings. Yes, that rod was .002...

    Spun 360 Rod Bearing

A measuring we will go. I'll be doing the cleaning. That's one aspect I'm familiar with. I'm hoping the crank I have now can be saved. Looks worse in the picture than it is, I think. .002" I'll get back when I have more info. Thanks everyone for getting me going in the right direction.

    Spun 360 Rod Bearing

Hi Steve. I hoped that fire isn't affecting you. I hear you on the Kings. The bearings in it are Clevite 77's. Would you happen to know if they're comparable? I just did a little searching about bearings; there's a bunch to learn! I'm curious as to what the machine shop has to say. I would...

    Spun 360 Rod Bearing

I bought a used 360 w/ balanced stock rods and crank, KB191's (measured 10.9:1), 292* .508 purple cam, and ported 915's w/ 2.02 intakes. It has run mostly 11.90's in a 3000# (at the line) Duster. I took it apart to see what was in it, and check it out when I bought it, because the guy I bought...

    Wow, Simply Awesome!

I would think that it takes a certain type of personality to handle that kind of work. I couldn't do it. It would be interesting to learn the history of that kind of work. I mean, somebody had to design all of that stuff knowing that someone was going to have to put it together.

    Machine Shop Recommendations 08244

I've never used them, but Shoemaker's Automotive Machine Shop is in Clermont. You're in Somers's Point? I'm pulling my engine now; I have a knock and bearing material in the filter. I've been thinking of contacting them. I don't know of any others in the area. Searching, I see they're on...

    Cecil County 10-19-24

Yes, it is getting better. As far as the lights (rt) go, when I went last month, and the first pass on the 19th, I was watching the tach to see what the convertor flashed to. (about 4k). Those last three runs on the 19th were the first runs I've tried to cut a light in 30 years, when they...
