I have 3 318's, 2 from -89 roller cams in cars & 1 solid from -77 sitting & while I was cleaning the roller lifters in one a guy said roller cam engines are Magnum engines... That pussled me as I never though so, what's the correct answer?

Keep the 273. You have a fine forged bottom end and factory mechanical lifters. Put commando pistons and cam in the old girl and you will be making 5 more horsepower than a stock 318. Or put a d dart spec cam in her and you will be making 45 more horsepower than a 318. The 318 also never came...

After learning how to install cam bearings, buying the installation tool and doing it myself for the first time, the last thing I wanted to do was to do it all over again. Overkill? Perhaps. Did it work? PERFECTLY. Not one nick, mark or scratch on the fresh new cam bearings.

You probably can get 400 hp out of a stock 273/318 head with enough cam and cr don't make it a good choice for that much horsepower.

That ‘87 318 is a good motor, especially if it’s a roller. Put a good intake, carb, headers, mild cam and dual timing chain with a metal gear on it and it will move that Dart around just fine. If you decide on the 360 just remember it’s externally balanced and the 318 is internally balanced

I am currently running a stock 5.2 magnum in a D150. Headers, Carb, Port matched. Just finished building a 318 with XE262 Cam. Stock 89 short block, port matched. Do you guys think the 318 with the XE262 cam will make more noticeable power compared to the stock 5.2?
