What is the weirdest color that you've seen on an engine?

Last year I took my valve covers to get powder coated. Asked the guy if he has Mopar colors as I was thinking Plum Crazy, since my car's that color. He climbs on a stool and is rooting around on a high shelf. "here they are" and throws the big ring of colors on the counter. Panther Pink landed...

This is a 68-72 small block A body K frame, right?

correct. But only the 340 cars had the washer welded.

    Looking for a Machine Shop

Any GOOD machine shop can take care of everything for you. Find one close to you that has been in the biz for years. Ask around for reputation. Chevy Ford whatever. Machining is machining. And a valve job is a valve job. A REALLY good shop beats some Mopar exclusive hack, any day. Believe me.

340 4 barrel and 340 6 barrel: were they really UNDERrated?

Waaaay back in the late 70's, I was racing my Chevelle every Friday night at the old Heidleberg track, not 20 miles away. One of "our gang" was a couple years older than us and more experienced. He ran a red 70 Duster bone stock, other than headers and a "shift kit". I don't remember what rear...

    Billet Main Caps

What I've been running. PROPERLY done, Zero main cap walk. Others poo poo the idea, but there's a big difference from one bolted on and one installed correctly. A lengthy time consuming install but well worth it.

340 4 barrel and 340 6 barrel: were they really UNDERrated?

Your Cuda motor in an A body would have beat that Superbee every time. (weight)

    Drag radials

275/60 15 on 8 inch American Racing aluminum wheels. Had to use contact cement when mounted. For some reason the passenger side used to move in the wheel a bit. Been marking a dot where the valve stem is. No problems since "glued".

    2step clutch switch installed

Yeah. You have a point there. Just looked like it was engaging pretty early. Mine's all the way to the stop, with a rigged Cavalier brake light switch. Just a hair off the stop and woohoo.

Hope you have that on a button, also. What about powershifting? Is your 2 step gonna still be active?

Valve Clearance on Larger Camshaft and Flat Top Pistons

You got it brutha! I'm .005 out with .039 gasket. Brings my quench to .034. I wouldn't go any tighter. I think .030 might be pushing the envelope.......Maybe.

    Edelbrock rpm heads

Whatever way you decide to go, they will have to be gone over by a good machinist. Never trust "out of the box".

Valve Clearance on Larger Camshaft and Flat Top Pistons

Maybe I'm wrong, but 0 decked with 050 gasket and flat tops is terrible "squish". Not gonna make much power. .050 waay too much. I wouldn't even begin to worry about valve clearance.

How to measure the drive shaft..... not "for the ideal driveshaft"

Seriously, what is the desired play. I squish my rubber tranny seal just to get the u joint into the yoke. Maybe 3/4 inch play. Doesn't seem enough.

How to measure the drive shaft..... not "for the ideal driveshaft"

My question is how much "play" should be in your yoke? I have very little, just enough to slip the U joint into the rear end.

    Steps in compression test?

Come on guys! Can't we all just get along. Learn a little, teach a little. I have built, myself, many Mopar engines since I joined here in 2009. Some for me, some for other guys. All have worked out great. Also did a pretty complete resto on my own Demon in 2010. EVERYTHING Mopar, I learned...

    Steps in compression test?

Really? When you have a chance, run a compression test COLD with closed throttle plates. Next, get the engine up to operating temp, block the throttle OPEN and run a comp test again. Tell us your results. I think you'll be surprised!

As far as the Bam's go, when I had my current set rebuilt I had them use bushed rollers. A bit more pricey but a bit more peace of mind.

    Roller cam and lifters question

I'm a Bamm guy for a long time. I do run pushrod oiling, with bushed bores. I modify mine to get more oil to the rods. Works perfect. I have run them with shaft oiling and a good set of rods with NO oiling hole, and had no issues whatsoever. As long as your bores are bushed, I would run those...

    Drag radials

I've heard that about the Nitto's. They would not work for me on the street. Where I live, almost every time a guy takes his hot rod out, he get challenged. It's been that way here since the 70's. There are quite a few known "safe spots". Gotta uphold your rep!:)
