My weapons of choice: Plus a lot of elbow grease! My plan is hit the inside of the frame rails with that Eastwood "Rust Encapsulator Plus" just to try it. I'm using plain old Rustoleum Rusty Metal primer for the outside of the frame rails, inner rockers, and anywhere else underneath then...

Current Recommendations On Home Wheel Alignment Equipment?

I use the "Joe's Racing Products" version of this. It works very well, highly repeatable, etc, etc. I've posted before that it made my avatar launch straight, go straight, and be VERY stable at the big end (~120 mph). It drives well on the street also. Additionally, I used it on my 71 show...

Ironic that I just finished stripping all the undercoating off my 69 Charger (I've own since 1978). Frame and all structural looks mighty good to me. Floorpans/trunk floor also good. Planning to put quarter patch panels/trunk drops, fenders, rear lower valence, and outer rockers on to make it...

    Mickey Thompson Sportsman Fronts

My thoughts exactly and hence why I chose the 8-ply Mickeys. And especially given my car is also street driven. Worrying about load rating on front tires at about 120 mph is NOT something I want to think about at the big end of the track either!

Post your best racing related memory!

One of my favorite memories was from 1993. My wife was due with our 1st child 1 week later but there we were at the now defunct Detroit Dragway that late July night. I was racing my mid-12 sec 69 Charger. Not the fastest car but extremely consistent and had a pretty good record. That car...

    That pesky shifter cable

Winters or Cheetah shifter? I've got the Cheetah in the avatar and don't recall the direct interference. But maybe it got lost in all the other issues of my build!!

    Mickey Thompson Sportsman Fronts

Interesting - I've never seen a tire without a load rating. Here's from the M/T website for the Sportsman tires:

The load rating for the tire should be right on the sidewall so you can see what they are rated for. IIRC, the M/T Sportsman 8-plys I have hold 60 psi pressure.

The avatar runs the 8-ply. I wanted the higher load capacity and don't want to worry about them.

Battery Switch questions or is it a ground issue

Hmmm....I'm going to have to think about this one and follow along. Like @MDchanic , I want to help as I find these electrical issues fun to troubleshoot (yep, I'm an engineer!). But the internet makes things lots harder to communicate so we're a bit balled up trying to understand what you...

What's the go to for radiators?

If you're going that route, allow me to recommend a Champion Cooling Systems radiator over a Champion radiator. Two separate companies most people don't ever discuss. Avatar has the former (Champion Cooling Systems, #526 with 3 rows) and cools just fine on the streets and track here in Florida...

    Fuel Pressure Gauge Location

:poke: Oh c'mon now...fuel pressure gauges belong on the cowl just like they were in the 60's/70's. Oops...you can tell my age....(and see where my gauge is!!)

Battery Switch questions or is it a ground issue

Just to clarify, if I understand what you are saying is the On-Off switch contacts function to join the battery neg to the vehicle ground and when the switch is in the Off position, that circuit is intended to be broken. Correct? Also, you say a test light lights up when touching roll cage...

I Am Thinking It Might Be About Time To Start Downsizing My Possessions

When I retired and we moved to Florida in the fall of 2023, we literally could have filled 2 enormous dumpsters with what we threw out from our 3000 ft2 house. Where/how could one accumulate that much stuff in the 28 years we lived there??? And how did it all fit? We felt like hoarders...

    New Coil-Over Conversion Suspension

There are guys on here with cars MUCH faster than my avatar (11.0's) but I would tell you that for me, leaving straight and staying straight is what handling is all about. After getting the correct caster in the car, it does this and no longer veers off to the left when the tire comes down...

    Cylinder head dyno shoot out

Knew a guy that raced a 12 sec car. Then an 11, then 10, then 9 sec car. Built a no-prep car (Mustang) that ran in the 4 sec 1/8 mile range. Told me he actually had more fun when he raced a 12 sec car as it was low/no maintenance, he could go to the track by himself instead of a cast of 4-5...

Horrible bump asteering 1972 Dodge Demon

I'm no expert and can't say why but when I installed my SPC double-adjustable UCA's and dialed in the proper caster (I used 3-3.5 degrees) as well as the correct camber and toe-in, my bump steer went WAY down (avatar has the 73-up OEM disc brake setup.) Things like turning into a driveway no...

    No heater at all ??

Other than no defrost/defog capability, there's no downside. The avatar car has no heater box and is driven on the street as well as at the track. I run a hose essentially just bypassing where the heater core would be. Pic to see what mine loooks like.

What Are You Doing To/With Your Car Today?

Went racing of course! Ole dummy here still likes to red-light (this time in 2nd round) but the avatar set a new personal best: 11.05 at 119.7 at a 780 DA. 1/8th mile was just off its PB for et and mph. Not too shabby for a guy like me! (It even went 11.07 off the trailer which was its...

car that influenced me when I was young

Friend had a 70 Coronet R/T. 440/727. I had recently purchased my 69 Charger (383/727) and thought it was pretty fast (it wasn't!). He took me for a ride in the Coronet and laid down 2 black stripes "forever" on the street. I learned right there that I wanted more for my car to be able to...
