One last pass to torque bolts, grease fittings, height adjustment, and one more brake bleed. It rolls pretty straight despite being all tore apart. Steering wheel is a little off. I’m taking it for a pro alignment Monday. See ya’ll out on the blacktop!

That $AXON purchase worked out as of today. Not quite 10% but better than the S&P so far. April was the better dip for sure!

1971 Duster With Original 10" Front Drum Knuckles - Tips and Tricks for Removing the Knuckles?

FSM shows tool C-3711 which I understand one can procure at Mancini Racing still. The idea is jack the LCA up enough that the ball joint studs line up and screw this thing in between them to push both ways. Then tap the knuckles with a dead blow hammer. Mine was homemade Cheers

Yikes! I’m scheduled for an alignment on the 12th. Hope I can get it settled before that. I attempted to get my head around the indexing idea but i couldn’t find much guidance on it in the FSM. Did yours relax onto the bump stops?

You can see that the LCAs had some texture inside the bushing seats; I wrapped a socket with 80 grit and smoothed out the bore a bit.

PITA v 2.0. I broke one of my soft hammers getting both to within half an inch of home. One with the bushing in first the other with the pivot inside the bushing. Took them to Harbor Hydraulic and Machine and they pressed them the rest of the way. Thanks guys!

Tie rod differences inner vs outer

No sir, I used a scissor jack to raise the LCA (&knuckle) back into the upper ball joint stud.

Tie rod differences inner vs outer

Looks like you’ve got your front end all apart too just now! I’d think if your new setup is the same length you would be G2G at least 10miles. Mine is going to the alignment guy with a lot more adjustments needed but not very far. I had an idler arm fall right out of the K frame (‘65 Dart)...

lol. I tried that first but feared that it might fuse the shell for good if I got too aggressive with the heat. I set for A 1.5 and all my slag buggers just ripped out! Went with the fold over the lip and push hard method. Sucked! Only one black finger though

Off to drop off a first grader and then the parts store for a lower ball joint. Detroit Muscle Technology has torsion bar clips. They’re on the way too as one was missing. I also took some of the play out of the back of the LCAs

Pivot shaft & poly bushings mystery

The LCA sides look solid. Hard to say on the other side. Tube seems smaller than the hole on that side. For the taper i reckon. It will need a little cleaning but I believe it’s good. Thanks

Pivot shaft & poly bushings mystery

Good point! A spell or two with leaking valve covers may have helped as there is plenty of lube in both tubes. The pivot rocks a tiny bit when inserted all the way into the K frame

Pivot shaft & poly bushings mystery

For the record or for science, I will say that after 65,000 miles and 14 years without lubricating the poly bushings that I didn’t know I had, and cleaning the dirt out of them, they may still be serviceable! Lol. I think my slop issues were likely caused by “end play” due to a combination of...

    If you’re going to buy a puller….

I rigged this up to apply pressure and then a dead blow worked. Well 3 out of 4 anyway. I had to screw it on one of the lower ball joints and whale the crap outta it. I can’t do the same with the tie rod ends though…

Which one would you say has the most applications for our A bodies? Meaning, do you have one that is your go to for tie rod ends but can pinch hit in multiple other jobs too? you’ve abused it for years and it’s still working fine. Thanks
