'71 Dart 6.4L swap progress being made!

I got her out for a show today. Nothing but positive reactions, most common comment was “how the hell did you fit it in there?”

'71 Dart 6.4L swap progress being made!

OH BOY! That tune was WAAAY off. I was pinging under medium load - I think the boys were using best-case gas assumptions, but that's OK - 30 minutes in the car with live tuning, and before you know it, it's dialed in! They had to take 10 degrees of advance out of the timing curve. My tuner...

'71 Dart 6.4L swap progress being made!

I've taken it out for some limited miles - I still need to have my tuner go through the ECU since the "temporary tune" was with stubs off of the headers, and not the full exhaust. She's definitely running toasty at highway speeds, so it'll be "cruisin' speed" for now. That's scheduled for the...

I had to chase the threads on every single stud for the bench. That tap and die set paid for itself!

And the bench is in! It was a bit too late to take her for a drive but that’s good for tomorrow.

Tomorrow I get the front bench seat in and go for the inaugural cruise! Installing carpet is nerve wracking, but that gold makes the interior POP!

'71 Dart 6.4L swap progress being made!

Today’s the day!!! I’m heading over this morning to get the car loaded up on a flatbed for delivery back home! remaining on the list - finish removing the last bits of the carpet pad, install dynamat , cut and install the new carpet, install seats and arm rests, adjust the rear window angle so...

'71 Dart 6.4L swap progress being made!

Oh and I bought a bunch of stuff pre COVID so I saved money before prices went stupid. Makes me wonder how anyone can afford to do these!

'71 Dart 6.4L swap progress being made!

I haven’t kept a full accounting of what I’ve spent (or I think my wife would have divorced me) but at the moment I’m about $40k into the project for what I’ve paid the shops for wiring, motor, transmission, rear axle, engine computer, install labor, suspension install / alignment, and assorted...

'71 Dart 6.4L swap progress being made!

Car is in for alignment and frame rail installation as of noon today! I decided to go with an off the shelf TTI exhaust system to speed up the process, as the exhaust guy has limited availability to build custom. So best case scenario, it’ll be back in my driveway in a few weeks for the...

    Questions about a 2006 5.7

Yeah, I made the choice early on with my car, it was “build a balls to the wall 360 stroker” for $17k with my shop, or “order a brand new crate motor with accessories ” for $12k. Obviously the direction changed going from a stock 485 HP build of the crate which increased the budget, but we’ve...

    Questions about a 2006 5.7

The stock intakes flow much better than they’re given credit for. On my 6.4 project, with zero mods on the intake side it’s putting down 615HP to the crank.

Original Carpet Color? - 1971 Dart GY8 Gold, Black Vinyl Roof, Harvest Gold Interior (H2Y3)

I'm debating if the carpet is actually original to the car, since it's got 145k miles, and I know it's been out of the car (previous owner put some sort of... metallic insulation under the rear seat) - That's why I'm thinking he swapped it from a different car. I don't think they would have...

Original Carpet Color? - 1971 Dart GY8 Gold, Black Vinyl Roof, Harvest Gold Interior (H2Y3)

Hey FABO Brains! I have a '71 Dart GY8 Gold Iridescent (metallic) car, Black Vinyl Top, with original Harvest Gold Vinyl Interior (H2Y3) with black door trim (per the broadcast sheet.) https://www.hamtramck-historical.com/images/dealerships/colorAndTrim/1971/71_Dart0003.jpg The carpet in the...

    hot wire harness installation question

If you check my thread in this group, my wiring guy used the hole originally fit the heater core and it basically provides an invisible location to get the harness to pass under the factory 6.4 cover. This obviously means you’d be doing the retrofit AC /heater system which uses the factory...

'71 Dart 6.4L swap progress being made!

Ha! Steps forward steps backward, and then steps forward again... The rubber mounts we placed compressed with the engine weight and caused them to sink slightly. This brought back a clearance issue with the headers and torsion bars on both sides (previously the Passenger side fit with no...

'71 Dart 6.4L swap progress being made!

Actually they've been working with their engineers - this seems to be an issue with more than just the Gen 3 Hemis - the LS and Coyote engines are also having issues with the flow routing, and specifically modern engines being under a much higher working pressure. One of the test cars blew the...

'71 Dart 6.4L swap progress being made!

Spoke with my guys. Yeah… first show of the year is definitely not gonna happen. We’re moving forward but guys with bigger wallets than me are on the list. At this point we had to swap back from the rubber mounts to poly locs due to settling of the material. We had clearance and then we didn’t...

[SOLD] Free 1971 Dart 7.25 Axle - good shape pulled from running driving car.

For free to who wants to pick it up in Minneapolis area - 1971 Dodge Dart 7.25 Rear Axle with tall gears, open diff. Came from a 318 car. Lots of new brake hardware and shoes, pretty sure I have the drums for it. I might also have the spring perches and brake distribution block / vent...

[SOLD] [pending pickup] Set of 4 14” steel wheels SBP with (basically) new tires.

(Would need to pickup in Minneapolis area) I have this posted on Craigslist for $100 but I would give these to a FABO member. What to say? Originally off of a 1971 Dart Swinger 318. Bought the tires a few years ago, put 100 miles on the car (probably less) and then switched everything around...

'71 Dart 6.4L swap progress being made!

Heard from my shop - the Dart is now in the “general” shop for the final plumbing and assembly! I was told that my plan for Mopars in the Park was not unattainable. They’re bringing an extra guy to speed up the process. Next post should be a video of first firing of the engine in the car.

Oh this looks soooo much better than my past attempt to “gold accent” the plastics! OER paint is pretty magical! The original colored kick panel is at the bottom for comparison.

'71 Dart 6.4L swap progress being made!

I’m not entirely sure what chip was used. I believe it’s a Schmitt trigger circuit. My wiring guy knows someone who custom makes them on a mini PCB. The problem is that with the magnetic induction sensor, the pulses are too close together and do not rise and fall enough to differentiate the...

    6.4 Stock-Style airbox?

If I end up needing to cut one down, I can potentially do some plastic welding if I can hide the seam and not make it look like a butchering job. The other option would be to look for something else in the Mopar line that fits the dimensions and couple the air intake to the correct size tube...

    6.4 Stock-Style airbox?

I’ve seen a few pics but can’t remember where- is anyone running a OEM style airbox (challenger/charger/???) on their 6.4? I’d prefer not to have to fab one or use a generic DeltaFlow kit if I could just adapt a factory one or pull it from a junkyard. The challenger one looks like it might be...
